End of 2000......

A RHD Emerald S14a Touring Manual rolls off the production line in Osaka... One of the last evidently.

January 2001....

Aforementioned S14a arrives in the UK, eagerly awaiting delivery to its new caring home - ready to be lovingly driven gently and occassionally by some JB-esque character with a pipe.

Simultaneously, Salesman and former Amateur tarmac rally driver Dunk orders his new company motah - an Emerald S14a Touring Manual.

End of Feb 2001

The mint and unsullied 200 arrives on Dunk's doorstep with a mere 183 miles on it... The ***** eagerly looking forward to its new gentle life....

The illusion is dispelled that very evening, when, in the interests of scientific research, Dunk finds out where the rev limiter is, and just what the slide/drfit characteristics are...:wack: :D

by June, the 200 has lost its boost restriction, done 70 laps of Goodwood, been through several sets of Yokohamas

By 2002, she's chewed a Manifold and several more sets of Yokos

By 2003, she's now covered in scratches, dents and wear n tear - only being cleaned by the dealership on 6000 miles services...

November 2003 - a fluffed gearchange see's her rev out to 8400rpm without anything falling off - repeated *ahem* 'fluffed' gearchanges see no further damage (yet) from going to over 8000rpm

19th November 2003 - 100,000 miles reached and the following has occurred in its life with me:

Services: = 16
Set Tyres: = 12
Set Front Brakes: = 14 (!!!!!!)
Set Rear Brakes: = 9

Best Lap Time @ Gooders: = 1.37
Highest achieved speedo reading (leptons) = 143
Highest achieved speed in reverse = 26
Highest achieved RPM = 8500
Asbestos Hamsters used: = 587

Longest intentional slide = approx 200yds
Longest unintentional slide = approx 250yds (NSR blow-out at 125mph)

General Dunk approval rating: (out of 10) = 8.5

Good Bits:
Excellent steering feel - especially when sideways
Engine peakiness when de-restricted
Bomb-proof build
Surprisingly quick
Excellent LSD

Bad bits
Crap seats
Low equipment level - needs oil temp gauge
Front suspension - too much roll
Rear suspension - too soft

Would I have another one?

You bet!

Closest road going thing to a Tarmac Manta 400 (and thats praise from me)

Oh believe me mate I am....

I have a base level of mechanical sympathy that stops me from redlining it when cold - but last weekends trip to 8400rpm didn't kill it!

I mean 14 sets of front discs is not evidence that she gets driven?

worked out what your getting next Dunk?

Dunk

Well she's up in Feb - but due to a number of commercial pressures there is a freeze on new company cars - which means that, technically speaking, I'm stuck with it ad infinatum.....

Which is good cos I love her

But is bad cos the tax is crippling!

If I stay with company cars, it'll be a BMW 320d Sport of some sort cos the tax is cheap...

If I come out the scheme and take the cash allowance, it'll be one of the following:

350Z
Skyline
E36 Alpina B3

I thought that was 14 sets of PADS!!

I've driven approx 50k in mine, and I've used:

3.5 sets front tyres
5.5 sets rear tyres
3 sets front pads
1 set front disks
2 sets rear pads
1 set rear disks
8 services at Nissan
7 services by me
2 sets turbo gaskets
1 set of shock absorbers (only the rears were gone)
1 clutch
Enough petrol to give George W Bush a lazy lob-on

And, errr, that's all folks :)

I LIKE TO BRAKE :wack:

Left foot braking cooks them as well....

I get the discs done every time cos normally they're distorted beyond all recognition  :wack:

hehe and JB's history to date with his motor?

1. 20 bags of "old man" rolling tobacco
2. 2 Pipes (one pine, one oak)
3. 4 Sets of slippers, the M&S ones seemed to last the longest.
4. Still using the original "beaded" seat cover as supplied by Nissan on request (rare option only for the awkward)

:D:D

Hmm, I've had my 97 for three years now and in the 26odd thousand miles I've driven it, I've had:

1.5x sets of tires.
3x services, all Nissan.
1x set of shocks and springs, which is only because I have uprated them, the OEM ones were fine I think.
1x Fuel pump.
Lots of petrol.
Same brake discs and pads. There's still tons left on the pads, I'm pretty sure I have some sort of NASA technology material in there somewhere that just won't wear down.
Same exhaust. Pretty sure it's the one fitted when the car was new, but hopefully it'll die in the new year and I can justify getting a better one.

Maybe I just don't give it enough stick?

I've had my '97 for 3 years too - covered about 70k miles in it. In that time it's had -

10 Nissan services
2 sets of rear tyres
1 set of front tyres
1 set rear brake pads
1 set front brakes pads
2 sets front discs (! set only 'cus I uprated the brakes :) )
1 new fuel pump
3 sets of plugs

:D

BTW, I don't like braking lol :D
