Chaps,
I picked up my new car yesterday, it's a 1997/R S14, the problem is that the alarm and remote central locking doesn't work.

The car locks using the key and the previous owner, selling on behalf of his deceased father in law (Dodgy I know but it checks out!) said that in all likelyhood the old chap might have taken out the fuse for the alarm/CL for whatever reason.

So does anyone know where the fuse for the central locking and alarm is located as it doesn't appear to be in the two fuse boxes(for obvious reasons).

It's going in for a service tomorrow but if I can fix it myself and save a few pennies that would be great so all advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Dave

Dave,

The fuses are located behind a panel next to your right foot on the driver's side foot well. Are you quite sure your alarm isn't operational? When the alarm is functioning correctly it self arms 30 secs after locking the car, even if you've had to do this manually rather than via the remote, and the LED on the top of the dash starts to flash. You can check if this has happened by opening the boot with your key, this should trigger the alarm, provoking it into either make some squeeking noises or go into full blown loony mode, depending on how long you've left it.

Cheers Geoff,
Fuses were the first thing I checked but there didn't seem to be one for the alarm so I pulled all of them and they were all ok.
This made me think that the fuse must be elsewhere for security reasons.

The Central locking remote doesn't do anything when pressed but the little LED flashes so it's got power, I have to lock the car with the key which engages the Central Locking.

The Immobiliser on the dasy top also flashes away as soon as the car is turned off so I'm assuming thats alright as well.

The alarm is right there under the bonnet but the wiring dissappears into the body work so the only way of tracing the wiring would be to start taking bits off and I haven't got the oppertunity at the moment.

Does the car give any other indication of being locked and alarmed? i.e. flashing indicators/alarm blips when you lock it?
As far as I can tell mine doesn't do anything so I'll give the boot thing a bash later.

Cheers for the help, any other suggestions gratefully recieved.

Dave

Dave,

When you arm and disarm the system via the remote, the car beeps and hazards flash, but I don't think this happens if it self-arms after locking up with the key. There are a couple of circuit breakers for the remote locking/alarm system, but I'm not sure where these are located.

Cheers mate, I'm bogging off early to take the car into the local dealers so hopefully I'll get it sorted there, although knowing them they'll just replace the bloody lot and charge the earth for it when all it needed was a new fuse!!!!!!!!!

Dave,

Ignore what I told you about the alarm self arming and being tripped by opening the boot. Apparently they don't work like this anymore, and you DO need the remote to arm the thing. I've just been out to mine to check. Sorry.

Did you get your alarm fixed yet?

I had similar problems with the alarm on my '98 S. I had the alarm unit (located in the centre console, behind the radio) and the remote central locking actuator (in the drivers door) both replaced on warranty and this seems to have sorted it out. A guy at the dealer also mentioned that the alarm on his S14 needed replacing aswell.

sometimes u guys go off the deep end , if the doors unlock/lock with the key and the remotes dont work -chances are the remotes have lost there code and just need recoding/ synchronising to the system, takes about 10-15 mins to do. It is very common.
If that dont work then it may need the other suggestions , poss new remote fobs. if it is the nats system with the master fob.

The immobiliser is seperate from the remote fob and is operated by a chip in the key that is read by a reciever by the ign barrel. If there was a problem with that your car would not run at all after about 10 sec.

Kenny wins £5,
Turns out that it was just the key fobs losing their code!
Needless to say I'm a happy bunny and so is my bank balance!
I'm picking it up tomorrow after having driven it for one day before it went in for the service etc..all that's left to do is find out why the left bank of speakers doesn't work and it'll be perfect.

Thanks for all your replies guys.

Glad you got it sorted.

I'm guessing the fix is something that has to be done by a dealer, even though it's quick ? Not something you can do yourself ??

(Of course, the kids down the road can probably do it for you).

Michael.

Believe u can do it yourself, according to the alarm manual. (Although I have to say it's one of the more confusing and unclear manuals I've read in a long time).

Hmmm yeh, sorry for being a bit 'doom and gloom' on that one. My probs were a bit more specific than that, the first time the alarm packed up when the car was in for a service and the garage had to disable it so I could drive home. The second time alarm would turn on, but the doors wouldn't lock.

Ah well,

Well gents,
It turned out that it was just the keyfobs loosing their code, so it cost a few quid for two new alarm blippers because I only had one to start with, and a bit more for the mechanics time, but along with a full main dealer service and new plugs the total cost was in the region of £250, so not as bad as I had thought.
Also I've now got a spare blipper and best of all, the instructions for how to re-programme the keyfobs should they lose their codes again, so if anyone needs this info just give me a shout.

Regards
Dave

Well DJ , glad to be of service, and that you got it sorted. The spare blipper is a bonus - mind you Nissan only supply them as a set anyway. But still http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
