errr basically as above, what are the big things to look out for when looking at GTI-r's with intent to buy.
decided i cant be arsed with a jeep and i've found a nice GTI-R i might get as a winter toy / car to be mildly tuned and used as a road car :)

i know gearboxes are ones to look out for, is it noise and crunchyness when changing gears or is there more to it than that?

what else is there to check apart from the really obvious stuff like oil etc.
its an import so rust shouldnt be a prob.

help please :)

cant be arsed to register on the gti-r owners club until i get one IF i get one.
need some advice pretty sharpish, pweeeaase help :)
cheers in advance folks.

Depends how long it's been in the UK. Look at the piss poor job Nissan did of rustproofing the s13 and then think about how much rustproofing they would have bothered to do for the Japanese market where they don't need it so much.

Used to have one of these so....

Yep, check the gearbox. A bad 'un will be obvious by jumping out of 5th. It is a bit notchy but dont put up with too much.

When you depress the clutch pedal, listen for a cracking or creaking sound... this usually means that the mounting bracket is coming away from the bulkhead, a complete arse to fix. If you can buy one that has had the bulkhead strengthed then all the better.

There tends to be a fair amount of wind noise from the windows, dont take this as being a bent motor, they nearly all do it. Some have a clanging noise in the roof, this is where the support bracing has come away from the roof, nightmare to fix (all the lining has to come out)

Std brakes are utterly appaling, 3 or 4 hard successive stops will have you with big fade, get one with uprated stoppers if poss.

Clutch will be buggered if taken to 1 bar, so make sure it is uprated if the boost has been increased.

Pay particular to any diff noises, both on acceleration and over-run. Anything noticable, walk away.

It should be kick you in the bollocks quick. If it aint, there is something up with it.

I hope this is of some help - On a personal level, whilst it is a hoot, I really never got on with mine and sold it after 9 months to buy a slower Skyline. It never let me down, but always had the feeling it was going to...

Good luck mate!
