What do you think of foglamps?

Rear ones in particular really help visibility in bad conditions, front ones I don't know how effective they are, I've never had any
They're handy for seeing the very side of the road if very foggy conditions but mainly used just to blind me?
Dave
I think the front ones are good to use instead of flashing your high beam before you let people turn. The rears quite useful in the thick fog, but the fronts dont offer much in the way of better visibility. :)

Not much good for the driver but they will help others see you in dense fog, think thats their main purpose rather than to illuminate the road.
I think they are made for BMW drivers
Rear one's fair nuff... front one's are completly pointless, I once banged mirrors with someone in thick fog cos we were both driving at 2 miles per hour watching the white line as it was the only thing we could see that told us where the road went, we both had front fogs on
Fronts pointless. Rears very useful in the right conditions (but an unspeakable evil in the wrong conditions when the twat in front of you has forgotten to turn it of   )
Does anyone else think that most people seem to have an odd urge to use their foglight in even the lightest mist? I think people feel cheated that they have paid for a button they hardly ever use
I fitted my own front fogs to my old Mk II Golf, and I did find them useful, but only in very thick fog.
They wouldn't get reflected back at you anywhere near as much as headlamps :)
I also used them frequently to piss people off who'd left their rear fogs on, if that didn't work it was main beam time - with the fogs as well, my Golf had 6 lights on the front :D:

Why didnt you make this a multiple poll?
Rear fogs are useless in my area, theres a maximum of one day each year theres such dense fog they may be switched on and help you being visible to others much better.
The front ones on the other hand are very useful (to me). I always switch em on in the dark and the roads being wet. IMO wet roads in the dark eat so much light its unbelievable. THe front fogs are very useful getting the road in front of me brighter.
This goes for me, but there are so many tossers around with their fogs always on, even at daylight which really pisses me off  :furious:
Daniel
Its a pity that they most people dont turn em off ... I fecking hate that.
But they are useful on completely unlit roads when nobodies coming the other way (fronts) and in fog(D'uh)
Backs are only ever useful in decent fog, not mist, proper FOG!
Hmmm I thought I did quite well .. you got away without the essay from my soap-box.

Rears are useful in poor visibility ( otherwise a bleedin' liability  )
I've always found most OEM fronts to be almost totally useless, Decent units are very useful on unlit roads & in fog etc.
Still not sure where to mount some on the S13
Use the fronts if travelling during the day on A roads, oncoming cars can pick your speed up a lot easier with the light so low to the ground. Especially if you're on their side of the road
If the fog is really thick, turn off the main beam and just use the fogs, you'll be suprised at the difference.

Rear fogs are very usefull in think fog/spray.
I don't use the front fogs when other cars are about but I do find them very usefull in bad weather.
When I was a van driver spotting cars coming up behind me in the wet was nearly impossible on motorways due to spray collecting on the mirrors. I could always spot vehicles with Front fogs though:nod:. It's just a shame the buggers wouldn't switch 'em off again once off the motorway:annoyed:
Front Fogs also have another use....
For some reason rabbits ect. don't run out in front of me in country lanes when I have 'em on.
Standard practice now when I'm 'moving' through the local back roads:wack:
I have to say that most people use them as a fashion accessory (hello BMW drivers  )
However, I use them in really bad conditions like heavy rain and, of course, THICK fog (fronts). The back one is only one when its under 50 metres visiblility. On the whole they are off most of the time and I have to look to see where the switch is...
Don't even get me started on these
Bloody every little twat round Essex in a Saxo/Punto/Fiesta* puts them on as soon as it gets dark
Do they make the car look cool ??? DO THEY FOOK:mad:
Do they make the car go faster ??? OF FOOKING COURSE THEY DONT:mad:
People caught with these on should have them smashed in at the roadside to teach them a lesson grrrrrr. :smash: :smash:
I'm fed up of people blinding me with their front fogs on:mad:
Followed a lady who was blinding me on my bike for miles following her. When she finally stopped at some lights I tapped on the window with my carbon kevlar gloves :D and told her to switch the things off as my retinas were starting to hurt.
'Oh!' she replied, 'I don't know where the switch is????'
On second thoughts just have the driver put down at the road side

rears are useful, fronts are shite.
And front fogs are no good at all in normal conditions as driving lights. If you want to see where you're going fit spots that come on with the high beams. My Pug has AMAZING lights, my ***** has candles
My old Bluebird had them. In three years I think I used them twice. More of a fashion accessory I think. Rear one is more useful and justifiable (safety) but I again, I rarely use it. Don't think I've used it once in 200 in my 17/18 months of ownership.
Had this as a sig for a while:

very handy round these parts, gets foggy as a mofo round here sometimes.
For the life of me, I will never understand why manufacturers don't put fog lights on self-cancelling switches (like the rear demister, only not on a timer). This way you would not 'forget' and would have to make a physical decision each journey.
Proper warning lights with the others in the dash to be good too. Put the feckers on a 100W bulb. No-one would 'forget' the feckers then, would they? :D
The german and swedish manufacturers do just that Nicely.

That's certainly the case with the new 5 series and the 7 series. All mercs since the mid 80s (at least) have had auto switch off for the fogs.
