View Full Version : Last nigtt I saw Traffic Plod reverse down a one-way street: what can I do about it?
...'Cos they would sure as hell book me for it!
About 1120 and he had driven up the one-way'er to pick up his mate who had parked a Cavalier (we guessed the driver of the Vauxhall may have been done for DD as he was in the back of the unmarked Omega).
Anyway, when Plod no.2 gets in thye car they REVERSE all the way down the one-way street and into the main road - and then cruise off!
As I'm not a fan of one rule for them, one rule for me I thought what could I practically do about it?
Report them and what happens? Nothing? Or do I become the most tailed man in North Somerset?
Any ideas or am I in fantasy land, here?
I think you might actually be allowed to reverse down a one-way street.
So long as you're not speeding

Anything as long as it's not speeding.....
Er, if you reverse down a one-way street that makes it, er, TWO-WAY?
Or doesn't it matter if you are driving an unmarked Omega (WX52***)?

You can reverse down the carridgeway of a normal road can't you? So long as there is no traffic??? I am assuming a one-way street is effectively one lane of a normal road.
But if they reversed out of the one way street onto a main road you've got em ;)

What can you do about it? Absolutely nothing
How do I know? I'll tell you a story....
Mate of mine was pootling round Bristol on a Friday evening when some lads in a 306 start giving him the eyeball and revving it at the lights.
So they end up giving it a bit of stick round town but my mate gets marginally ahead into the section coming out of the centre onto Park St. At this point there used to be two lanes, one going up Park St, the other down Anchor Rd. 306 gets alongisde my mate on the right and broadsides him forcing him off down Anchor Rd. Mate jumps out of his car with £2000 of fresh panel damage and grabs a local cabby as witness. They both agree on the plate for the 306. My mate calls it in. The police take all details as usual but when he gives them the plate he hears them type it in at the other end then there's a pause...."No, it can't have been that vehicle" "yes, it was, I have a witness here" "No, it can't have been that license plate, you must be mistaken". etc. etc.
Any guess what the 4 lads in the 306 did "for a living"? Cntus.

why?
I've done it several times from culdesacs/ one way closes while performing a turn in the road manoeuver
You can reverse down a one-way street so sadly there's nothing you can do:(
Easy to resolve.... inspect said car for fresh panel damage. Under Police supervision, of course
I'm not having a go at Police officers in general here, but it seems that 'the system' provides for a different set of rules and standards for them :( Many is the time I've seen Plod speeding down the M4. Once it was an 'Accident Investigation' vehicle doing about a ton without any blue lights
And I'll tell you another story....
This is the worst driving I've seen on UK roads....
Walking down the A38/Glos Rd. on evening and I notice a lot of police activity at the Ashley Rd lights, couple of vans, couple of cars and I guess there's been some trouble at the pub as usual. Stroll on down to the corner shop and I hear a major wheel spin followed by redline in 1st and 2nd, as I turn round to look at the aglomeration of rozzers I witness a mundano panda coming to a sliding halt in a pall of tyre smoke. This cnut was about the 10th copper on the scene and he had pulled out of my road and got up to about 60mph on a very busy domestic high street at about 7pm in the evening. Only even seen this sort of behaviour at drag strips before. Unbelievable cnut. :annoyed:

i think your right there dav, afaik it's a offence to reverse into a main road. some get the highway code out. (that book that we all owned once :p )
that or phone up the local traffic office and ask them
jim
The legal definition for reversing is
"Only what is nessecary"
So reversing down a one way street is simply "not necessary"
So they have broken the law!

I've thought about this. Get off speeding/dangerous driving for free, do sod all work except sit in a van and point a hairdryer at people, and you get paid too!
