AT LAST we are getting broadband capability in our village on 5/11 so I want to sort out an account asap. Can you IT chappies help me out as to what is the best supplier as I don't know much about the subject and don't want to pay more than necessary.
At the moment it seems that Tiscali are doing a pretty good deal. For £19.99 a month you get a 256kbps connection with free modem and a £50 setup charge or alternatively they do the faster 512kbps setup for £26.99 with no set up charge.
Any advice on either of these or any alternatives available would be useful. I have a BT line and can't really be arsed to change it so it has to be BT compliant.

Have you looked at Pipex (http://www.dsl.pipex.net/adsl/sales/solutions/residential/500/)

They are who I have used for my home setup & our office for their 2 Mbit internet connection.

Very efficient & helpful, plus it only costs £17.57 one time setup fee & free braodband modem , 2 microfilters and £23.44 per month for 512Kbps Down / 256Kbps Up

I'd say Zen ( great support ) , Pipex ( price ) or Nildram ( bit of both )

I use Demon, but that was because I bought my own broadband router. Their technical support is excellent, but they are more expensive than the options the others have quoted.

I've always used Force9, which is basically the same as PlusNet. they get pretty good ratings and The customer service I have had has been okay.

Take a look here for a comparison of the big suppliers:

ADSL Guide (http://www.adslguide.org.uk/)

:Plug: :o
By the way, if you do happen to go with Force9 or plusnet, do me a favour and mention my username as the 'referrer' - it's 'inversions'. Cheers!!! And no, I'm not just recommending them to get a discount on my own connection - I really do think they're okay!

yep Nildram all the way. might be worth checking jb's recent thread, it asks much the same question, and general opinion is nildram is the best.

edited to say i have nildrams 2 mbit connection for months and never had a single hitch with it, price is nice on all their packages, and more importantly their connections are fast when compared to others with same rating.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that if you are going to be doing lots of downloads during office hours, then use Nildram, if not, then ues Andrews and Arnold. They are even faster and the service is second to none, and you can use multiple computers on it without having to use NAT which is crap and a pain in the arse.
In fact, they gave me 29 useable addresses:D

Damn right... I'm on Tiscali and it's ok unless you need to call on their 'support' for any reason. Then you're dooooomed!!! doooomed!!! :annoyed: :whip:

I'm switching from Zen to Nildram shortly. Zen seem to be slipping.

Tell me about it. Just try switching "Surftime" from one phone line to another. Oh they did it, eventually, after several phone calls.. Worked out months later they hadn't switched it and merely put it on both phone lines (and were charging us twice for it). Their excuse? "Its not us its BT's fault". Guess what BT say? Had a guts full of it so cancelled it all, told BT to shove their "BT Together" package up their dirter and haven't looked back ;) . Looking at ADSL guide the Tiscali broadband service itself is fekin' shit, so I'd stay well away.

Well nildram always used to be the very best dial-up to be on, so the DSL should be pretty good too :)

A mate just signed up to PlusNet and I was pleasantly suprised.
