View Full Version : Good Driving Games on Low Spec PCs
Can any1 suggest any good driving games for a low spec PC?
850mhz celeron,256mb ram,crap onboard graffix(max 16mb if that :( )
Whats the best low spec game you can get with a good multiplayer mode?
ever seen the red dwarf episode where they are all in the alternate reality?
try that...
;)
pmsl @ Starion!
Car games are pish on the PC in my experience. Try need for speed or older F1 titles?
Dunc.
Colin McRae Rally 2?
no internet play on that tho, but would look fine on your PC.
what else....
Grand Prix 4...
Grand Prix Legends...
Not into Formula 1 so the F1 games would be a no no...
How about V-Rally(i think its called)the MS game that has real rally cars and a multiplayer, any good?
V-Rally is awful.
it has real cars but the handling is dire.

Now this is arse!!!
Get a good wheel and there are some great ones out there (you'll need to upgrade your PC though mate :( )
We've been playing this week ...
LFS
Nascar 2003
IndyCar Series
Microsoft RalliSport Challange
all great fun :)

As mentioned, Grand Prix Legends is possibly the best driving game I have played for realism.
Toca and Toca 2 are great fun as well. Toca 2 is only a fiver at most shops.

The TOCA games are good, the handling is better on the first one though. Very twitchy Scrabble mobiles!
Most computer shops will pay you to take it away as well.

I've heard some very good things about Grand Prix Legends, supposedly on a par with GT3 in terms of realism (and the cars are all RWD with skinny tyres :D ). Also can race online I heard.
Snag with TOCA is they are as McRearout hints FWD cars. Altho aren't there the special races with the likes of Lister Storms? (Tis this way on the PS1...)
What about Colin McRae Rally series?

good proper crashes in F1 legends and all the Geoff Crammond F1 series. Cars break up a treat.

if its anything like the PS1 version I worked out the way to play it. Imagine all the cars are rear wheel drive and made of very bouncy rubber. :wack:

1nsane is a good game, although you'd have to turn the gfx down a bit prolly.
Offroad racing, capture the flag, return the flag, demolion derby, checkpoint races. Loads of cars, good physics, loads of maps, car damage (you can fold it in half if you drive off a big enough cliff) and you can drive anywhere

I've not played any of the games you've listed so can't comment on that, but lying back on the sofa with GT3 playing on the widescreen TV can't be beaten IMO  ;)

My fave was Sports Car GT. Lots of big RWD stuff, loads of different cars, a dozen or so tracks, and pretty realistic if you have a wheel.
Loved it. Might look a bit old now, but it'll definitely run on your system as I could run it at nearly maximum video settings on my PII 350 with a 16Mb Riva TNT Video card.

Need For Speed is awesome and there are sites on here where people make their own cars and put em up for others to download, then you just put them into the game... They got nearly every car, some even have Nos on them  got mad stuff like the Batmobile :D So you can never run out of cars with that game...

I'd try to get hold of need for speed 4, High stakes?? (the one before porsche 2000) Porsche 2000 is my favourite though, I'd spend all day tuning my GT1 to do silly speeds on autobahn!

On your spec pc i'd say the TOCA games and Grand Prix Legends aswell, If you don't like F1 games because the modern racing is so boring then this would suit you perfectly.
Don't think of it as an F1 game, think of it as a DRIFTING game :smitten: :D .
Also there are beta patches available on Papyrus's website ( the developers ) including direct x graphics drivers ect. I run it at a very beleivable 1600X1200 dpi! Not bad for a 5 year old game :notworthy
You will need a steering wheel or analogue game pad to play it though.
And its a fecking big learning curve before you're any good at it so it'll keep you busy for weeks -no i'm not kidding!- before you get really competitive.
Just tried to run the trial version of Rallisport Challenge on my PC - and it wont work!!!!Need a better graphic card!
