Hope I wont get slapped for this as most information is from here (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58836).

Fact is jibber has the printed S14a workshop manual supplement. He is willed getting it scanned 2 share it with the community :)

Whats the best way getting it done? I think the best file format for this is Adobes .pdf.

200dpi quality should be enough for this. The S14 manual available everywhere is 200dpi (I think as its named like this), 816 pages and the files size is 28.5mb. Jibber sais his S14a supplement is about 335 pages, which will be something around twelve mb when done in 200dpi too. I dont think its a big problem getting this approx 12mb hosted somewhere then...

Main problem is how to do it - scanning and converting into pdf. I dont know shite about creating pdf files, only thing in my mind is you need Adobes Reader for viewing.

Is some kind soul here good in this stuff and can tell jibber how to do it best and what programs/tools are required?

Oh my lord this is sooo great, think Im not the only one looking for this thing for aaages.

You need acrobat distiller (or a clone pdf creator) to generate the pdf's.

You realy would want to find a self feeding scanner (depending on if the manual comes apart) as it will take ages and ages on a std scanner.

One you have the scan done (Multipage Tiff is best), you just print it as a postscript file to distiller (I think later versions can just convert tiffs)

You can just scan them directly into Adobe Acrobat. Its a really nice bit of software, it automatically converts web pages, word documents etc etc into .pdf's

I modified my S14 tech manual PDF to include bookmarks for each section as I got so damn fed up of trying to find the section I was looking for. Worth doing if you are going to make your own.

Its going to take a while if you just have a normal flatbed scanner mate. Best of luck

Shame, where I work we have a large scanning system for doing just this. Can do thousands of pages an hour!

But im in no position to use them and would be avery dead if I tried

you'll need a pdf printer.

you usually need to pay shedloads for one.
somehow, and i really don't know how, i've managed to find one that works for free...

if i can find the disc i'll do you a copy if you like

Easiest option to do this...

1) the manual would need to be unbound (Else it will just take ages doing it manualy)

2) Find a person (Me?) or company that has access to a heavy duty self feeding scanner that can generate pdfs.

30mins Done.

So , look at the pdf index page and type the number in the page box at the bottom of the screen.
