View Full Version : Which country produces the best cars?
well duhh it`s gotta be japan followed by a tie between germany and USA with france coming in last place coz the way they are put together is so badly thought out:mad:
Its a difficult question.
Japanese produce the most reliable cars on earth.
Italians produce the most beautiful, sexy cars on the planet.
Americans make the most awesome powerful cars.
Germans make quality well built cars. Well screwed together.
British make some desirable cars, but are not so well put together (TVR, Aston etc)
My money (quite literally) is on the Germans.

Germany,
If you want performance, they do it.
If you want economy, they do it.
If you want luxury, they do it.
If you want reliability, they do it.
And most cars from the above categorys are built like bomb shelters.
German efficiency and all that lark :wack:
Shame they cost so much for the good 'uns though:rolleyes:

Germany for me. I would love something like an Audi R64 or similar. Such a nice car and so well put together. I dont know how one country can build good cars and one can build shit cars. Our country is crap at everything:annoyed: :ghey:

But no mechanical integrity, built by Italian slackers taking frequent cigarette breaks and long lunches with wine.
Japanese cars are the exact opposite, reliable, efficient, affordable and completely soul-less by and large.
UK, I have poor knowledge of such things so I've probably chosen the wrong one - but I choose it because of escossies and rs200's.

Japan - lower to mid mass market and sports cars,
Germany - mid to upper mass market (& Porsche),
UK - specialist.
Italy - Ferrari nice but fragile, Lamborghini now VW.
USA - Viper, Corvette?

So am I right in saying that Escort Cossies are Made in Britian? I know Sierra Cossies (and Granada Estates of all things) are German built.

Every country got itīs fine cars. (Except Russia, I guess http://www.hatzer.at/forum/images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif )
The german cars maybe have a good Image, but I can see no difference between a Lexus and Volvo on one side and a 5er or E-Class on the other (except the price).
Furthermore the Car-Industry is meanwhile multinational.
I espcially like the japanese Sportscars.
They give f...k about the "mainstream".
Porsches get softer, heavier etc., a Honda NSX has always been hard, loud and fast and it will ever be like that. :notworthy
Don't know about the *best*, but if that means reliable, then its Japan hands down! It could be the most fantastic car in the world, but if it brakes down every two minutes it's a crock of shite! And that's much less likely to happen if you buy from the Nips!
Japs Kick Arse! :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip:

Would have loved to vote U.K because of Aston Martin, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Bentley, etc but none of them are British owned anymore:cry:

Noble? Caterham? TVR? More than half the F1 teams?
I voted German, although I don't like the aspirational crap of the badge image thing so I wouldn't have another one. Audi haven't built a decent chassis/steering set up since the original quattro. Merc have never made a proper manual gearbox.
The US? ahahahahahahah :wack:
I don't understand the massive prejudice towards French motors though, you still see a lot of old Pugs about in good nick and they've always built the best diesels, at least in non-exec motors.

Old Pugs might look good because they're mostly galvanised and so don't rust. Unreliable and very shoddily built though. :indiff:
Despite all this I still loved my 205GTi

Noble and Caterham only produce a handful of cars a year and neither appeal to me personally, dont think TVR are that great in regards to reliability etc, thought we were talking about road cars not F1

Anyone else see that Warrenty survey in which not a single German company got in the top 10!
Was based on how many cars broke down and the cost of repair, top was Mazda with Ford second (Because they're the cheapest to fix)
I voted UK, look at our sports cars :smitten:

The most reliable car I've ever had was italian, the least was german.
Go Figure.

Yeah, I spose. Our 406 seems well put together and not had any probs with it yet tho. < fingers crossed >

Not much that's better as a track day tool though. I share your prejudices about TVRs but they're still stupidly quick (and rather pretty IMO).

Well I thought we were talking about "Which country produces the best cars?" so it all depends on what the car is designed for. The UK is good at doing low volume, high value, high performance engineering and always has been. Just can't market the bloody things properly. :D
