View Full Version : S14 hot weather splutter problem!

My 1999 200SX S14 drives fine most of the time (and absolutely flies!) but has recently shown up an annoying problem. Scenario:

Hot day, car's been pushed a bit (on track, or blast home from work). Engine works fine...

THEN

come to traffic lights, or jam, so car is just ticking over. After a couple of seconds of idling normally the revs suddenly start hunting about all over the place, almost stalling, shooting up to 2000 revs. If you try to drive there's no power and feels as if it's running on three or even two cylinders.

Only solution, to switch off and leave for half an hour. Then okay again.

This has happened four times, each in same circumstances: hot day, car vary warm (though temperature gauge reading normal), then come to idle.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Or could they guess what the problem is?

The car has no cats, high flow exhaust and down pipe, induction kit and boost controller.

Many thanks in advance,

Steve

I should mention that the car only runs on Super Unleaded.

Had the same problem when running my modified micra on super unleaded a few years ago.

Was never able to fix the problem.

Was told that the problem was likley to be related to faulty/incorectly working sensor.

Ahah! TDI have just sorted the problem bless their cotton socks.

The ignition circuit had an intermittent fault and when it got too hot it started fritzing.

Groovy....
