my missus is "addicted" to the :censored: sims

got all the add-ons etc up to superstar

problem is that when either not doing anything or when going down to the superstar studio place or whatever its called (edit cos i is fick) it dumps you to the desktop and gives a completely gibberish error (not even words) in the application log (end of edit cos i is fik)

gone through all the skins and such trying to make sure everything is ok, tried different drivers, different graphics card, more memory, more swap file, windows re-load all sorts and it still :censored: does it

has anyone had similar problems? anyone fixed it?
doesnt do this on any other games :annoyed:

her pc spec is:

windows 2000 pro
direct X 9.0b
384Mb DDR
GeForce FX 5200 graphics
creative CT4810 SB16 sound card
netgear fa311 netcard
Abit KG7-Raid motherboard (same as mine)

errr cant think of anything else

regularly defragged hard drive

anyone think of anything we can try much appreciated

Hello,

Can't believe that my first ever post on this board is about the sims, but I think I know how to fix this.

Do a search for a file called ac3audio.ax , if it is there then try re-naming it to something else (just change the extension or something and keep a backup of the original).

It worked for me, but if you dont have that file anywhere I'm out of ideas!

me too, I spent weeks building this 'kinormous plush mansion for one of my sims. Invited about 10 people over for a BBQ and killed them all in a fire :(
moral of the story: don't put a BBQ next to a wooden table and chairs... and if you do, at least put up some fire alarms

Have you tried the Sims Cop?

You can download it from the sims website
and it goes through all your Sims files and finds
any dodgy skins, files etc.

MY missus had problems with her sims
and it solved all the probs!

The Sims File Cop This utility will go through your data files for The Sims and clean up any damaged or incomplete files. So after you download that new skin, just have the File Cop check things out for you!

You will have to register with the Sims.
Which is free & easy to do.

got file cop but doesnt even recognise the newer subcategories added since the second or third add-on :(

win2k isnt the prob as its substructure is identical to winxp only difference being it runs faster and doesnt crash :P
seriously tho didnt used to have any probs running it just been since the last few add-ons have come out
and aside from that we dont allow the mutant freak know as xp in the house, any equipment loaded with that has to be left on the doorstep even/preferably if it is raining

will try that acx file when i get home ta

Thanks for the welcome mate!

Im near Market Harborough, I'm not actually a 200sx owner yet but as soon as I have the means I probably will be. Still enjoying my 205!

And I had a sims addiction myself a while ago!

Agreed. Once you get the patches and SP1 its fine. Infact a bit better than win2k - sort of.

problems with xp are probably mostly down to me being a technician and there are many deeply technical faults with it

anways still not sorted but striders post has given me an idea, gonna disable the sound card and try it (what a suprise it would be if it was dodgy creative drivers ..... not)

ta guys

XP seems alright to me - I use it many hours a day, every day, with no problems :indiff:
