I'm fitting a boost gauge in place of the ash tray and was hoping someone can tell me how the best way to route the pipe to the engine bay is, do I have to drill a hole?
Also where do I connect it in the engine bay.
Has anyone else put it in place of the ash tray, if so what did you use to blank of the surrounding gap.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
Dave.
Hi,
Well, I was left scratching my head a bit over this, not wanting to take a black and decker to the car http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif In the end I took off a metal plate the accelerator cable goes through, and drilled an extra hole in this.
Only just fits though, seriously close fit, and there's no room for a grommit around the vacuum pipe either which isn't ideal.
That brings the pipe out under the steering column, I cable tied it to whatever was around and ran it over to the centre console - it's pretty easy to feed the pipe through from there. Under the bonnet, you can run the vacuum pipe along side the accelerator cable untill you get to the take-off point. If you look where the fuel injectors are, nearer the front is (I think) the anti-knock sensor. There's a small tube running to a little diagram type thing (don't know exactly what it is). You can jsut about fit a little t-piece in there.
As for the hole around the guage, a bit of mdf http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif sprayed matt grey with a big -ole in the middle of it worked for me. Don't get a guage that's too deep as it might not fit in well.
Hope that helps...
Tom

For another hole option...
In the engine bay ,drivers side, where the brake distribution pipes are, if you follow the pipes you will see a spare gromet.
it is in line ish with the clutch.
