They'd probably drift very well.

Most are 3.0 though, 2.5 is rare.

The sporty one was the MV6 but there's not a lot of power in it.

Vauxhall 2.5, 3.0 and 3.2 V6 are good solid engines.

very chippable

respond well to supercharging

cheapest mod is lightened flywheel - the stock ones are 18kgs

Bit of a biatch to service stuff - need a special tool to get the ruddy plugs out as I remember...

Pick of the Omega bunch:

3.0 Elite Auto (manual somehow don't suit them, and its got the same Getrag lorry gearbox as the carlton GSI3000)

Get one loaded to the hilt and check the heated seats work.

When you buy it immediately replace the cambelt - failures are common on higher mileage stuff as people will skimp this job. Cheap on bits but labour intensive

Check points:

Engine mounts
Propshaft
Diff seals
Rear suspension
Front ball joints
check crankcase blow-by
Auto-box for clonking - hold it in every gear to confirm health.
Kickdown - check it works.
Brake wear
Uneven tyre wear can point to twisted chassis.

Potential Rust: rear arches, front bulkhead, sills, sunroof, bottom of a and c pillars.

Check front wings for crash evidence - they are bolt on, but GM stick seam sealer on them like its going out of fashion. A replaced wing will normally have less, or no seam sealer at all.

When/if you change the timing belt be sure to change the guide rollers and the tensioners. I know of someone who had a roller or tensioner collapse and the end result..... 18 bent valves:eek:

[sad alert]

I actually really like the 3.0 Elite Omegas. If I have to have a sensible car before another fast car, I could be tempted by one of these. 210bhp, RWD, full of toys + cheap purchase price.

Don't worry, you're not the only one :o
