I build my own PC's, so I haven't used Time, but in general what i've heard about them is not very positive. I suspect they have in the past at least, used cheap components to get a good "headline spec" for the money.

the spec of the computer sounds good to me, what do you think?
1200MHz AMD Athlon processor
256 Mb sdram (pc133) memory
40 Gb ATA-100 hard disk
CD-Rw CD-copier and DVD combo drive
32Mb nVidia TNT-2 AGP 4x 3d grapics
soundblaster 128 3D wavetable stereo sound
56k modem
4 usb ports.
plus 17" flat screen monitor
Dot Pitch- 0.24mm
Resolution Ni-1280x1024
if i get all that and the epson 680 printer, and a scanner, it comes to £1050
is that ok?

Very old graphics card. You really need at least a GeForce 2MX or a straight GeForce 2.
What/will you use it for ?
I have just built a new PC for a mate who asked me to spec one up for him then went and got one from Time as they threw in a load of software. Less than six months later he was back again as he could not upgrade as the MB was so cheap (no free PCI slots and only two on the board). The basic spec (except for TNT2) looks OK but as Papa (Jon?) said they use cheap bits.

That sounds like a good deal, but it would be cheaper if you could build it yourself or know someone who could.

OK lets see what we can put together? This is without shopping round - all prices taken off www.dabs.com (http://www.dabs.com)
I have to say I'm surprised they are using a TNT graphic card and a 17" monitor in a machine of this price.
Athlon 1.2 GHz (266 mhz FSB) - £132
Gigabyte GA7DX Motherboard - £92
Ricoh CD-RW Drive (32x 8x 8x) - £69
Hitachi 16x DVD ROM - £44
256 Mb DDR PC2100 Memory - £41
Geforce2 MX200 Graphics (32mb) - £43
IBM 60GXP 41.2 Gb (7200 RPM) - £98
Elsa 56K PCI Modem - £28
Soundblaster PCI 128 - £14
Iiyama 19" Monitor (Max 1600x1200) - £182
300watt PC Case and FDD - Approx £50
Athlon Heatsink - £6
Logitech Keyboard - £15
MS Optical Wheelmouse - £15
Total £829+VAT leaving you £221 to choose your own printer and scanner, speakers etc. And it uses known components as well.

Other companies which are known to put together a good PC using decent components include Panrix www.panrix.com (http://www.panrix.com) (although the systems on the website look expensive to me) Mesh Computers www.meshcomputers.com (http://www.meshcomputers.com) and, Evesham www.evesham.com (http://www.evesham.com) which look especially good value.
Personally I would choose one of these over Time.
If I were you I'd go for one of the Dell packages. T
They're one of the best for quality and using come bundled with a Printer/Scanner for about a £1000.
I am biased because I've bought a Laptop of them and other systems in the past.
They do have very good after sales service, which is very important for computers when they break!!!

I can help you out here I think. A good mate of mine used to work for Time and whilst he was there he got a PC from somewhere else! He reckons (and this was while he was there, not after he left) that they are ****e, don't touch em.
Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

Check these dudes out, its who we used at work for some new CAD stations.
http://www.cclcomputers.co.uk/
Ring up and ask them what they can do for the money you want to spend and I'll think you'll find they're very competitive.
ps, Just make sure you get plenty of RAM (256min) a good graphics card and you'll be laughing.

Have a look at www.gigabyte-ltd.co.uk (http://www.gigabyte-ltd.co.uk)
I got a spanking Athlon 800 from them. I built it myself but the do systems as well.
2 things to bare in mind
1- what ever you buy will be out of date
2- some one will always come up with something better once you have bought
best of luck
AMD worth a look mines great, cheaper , more powerful than the the equivalent Pentium
make up your mind and stick with it
