hello,

Does anyone know what the oil/breather tube from the rear of the intake cam cover to the main block is for?

And perhaps more importantly what if it is blocked solid with gunge that I can't get out. What problems will it create?

I have cleared the cam cover and the rubber tube, but I can't for the life of me get all of the crap out of the metal bit of tubing that disappears down the side of the block between the intake manifold & block.

Thanks.

I *think* its the crankcase breather, its their to alleviate pressure in the sump caused by blow past on the pistons. It would possibly cause some hassle if it was blocked if you did have some blowpast. If i think logikally liek, it may disrupt oil flow if the crankcase is pressurised much. I wouldnt have thought it to be hugely important though or it would have been designed better. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

The idea is to recirculate the gases back into the intake, can cause some smokyness, but not if its blocked coz it aint working http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

++ I have just got back from the pub and the above may not be correct in any way shape or form++

I cleaned out all the breathers before I did the AAC valve etc. Couldn't believe the amount of carbon in the hoses, but it seemed at the time that the crankcase breather wasn't too bad so I didn't start poking things down it for fear of ultimately poking hard carbonised particals into the sump. Would that happen?
