Hello,

Could someone help me identify the pipes which go to the turbo.

There are 4 right?

I assume,

1 = Oil feed about 10mm diameter comes from rear of block.
1 = Oil return, fat pipe that goes from the bottom of the turbo to the sump.
2 more about 6-7 mm diameter, what are these, water?

If they are water pipes, is there a chance that the water my be leaking into either sida of the turbo, if so can it be fixed?

Other than head gasket, is there any other place water (coolant) can get into the intake/combustion/exaust stream?

Oh, and how wise is it to drive around without any of the turbo/manifold heat shield on?

The oil comes from the front of the block. The pipe that goes behind the engine is the return for coolingwater.

yes, and it tastes so good when you are lying underneath it taking the turbo off and your "mate" takes the radiator cap off. Yummy antifreeze.. :/

I have a hybrid turbo and the heatshield no longer fits, I have been driving like this for two years no probs. The other two pipes are coolant an entry and a return to cool the turbo, it should not leak any coolant into the intake and any steam from the exhaust should be the head gasket leaking directly into the cylinder !

I don't think that it is the head gasket, I could be wrong.

What I am experienceing is weird, when I start the car there is no smoke/steam, after about 30-60 seconds smoke/steam begins to appear.

Now it looks like oil smoke but doesn't smell like it, smells chemically (kind of like antifreeze) but after a couple of minutes it stops. However when it is in full flow it is quite embarassing for those couple of minutes as you can imagine.

I was wondering if coolant was leaking into the turbo housing somewhere then as it warms up begins to boil and evaporate.

Are there any other tests other than leak down that I can do to check the heak gasket?

Do as me.. I've taken away the water supply to the turbo. It's enough with the oil cooling it.. (I think) http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

Head gasket symptoms can be oil in the water (check the header tank) or flick the oil filler cap off and if on the underside of it it looks like mayonnaise then water has emulsified the oil.
