Hello,

Does anyone have any experience of changing their valve seals?

Mine don't seem to be sealing anything atm, and I have a feeling that Chimp's are in the same state.

I'm lead to believe that it can be done with engine in car and is reasonably easy?

What tools are likely to be needed (spring comressor?) and where do you get the seals from, Nissan?

Why goddam it are the two sections that I have needed so far (3rd day of ownership of S13, not necessarily a good sign) missing from the pdf manual? Does anyone have the Cylinder Head section or the Turbo pages?

Looks like my W'end is sorted, oily gypsy boy, fantastic.

Hi,

It will be tricky to replace the valve stem oil seals on a 200 because the valves are deep in the cylinder head, plus you need an air compressor to pressurise the cylinder to prevent the valves from droping into the cylinder as you remove the split collets from the valve spring retainer.

It would be alot easier to remove the head and change the seals, and at the same time you can relap the valves for a better seal.

If valve seals go, are oily spark plugs one of the symptoms?

No need for compressed air to hold the valves up. Just remove the spark plug for the relevant cylinder, lower the piston down a little. Now feed in some rope. and turn the piston back up

Now the valves won't drop down. Seemingly the best rope to use is the stuff for rock climbing.

You shouldn't need the head off to do the job. Just a case of making up some lever device thingy ma bob to push the valve springs down with.
