View Full Version : Where to get dateless number plate?
I fancy getting a dateless number plate but I can't find anywhere that sells the real cheapies - I know they are available from as little as £50 ... but where? Wanna sell yours? :D
Just get one from a car registered in N.I., they have 3 letters and 4 numbers, no date, like this:
HIL 3451
:)
Just found an Irish one on Ebay :) I placed a bid but ... who knows :D

Have you tried the DVLA website?
The DVLA say that they do not sell directly - only through auction. I was told to expect to pay upwards of £800 for a facelift plate!
Errr thats not right I bought mine for £250 inc transfer from www.dvla-som.co.uk which is the DVLA direct sale site lol ? don't buy a plate from anywhere else that site is the government and there is no mark up as a result.
Everyone else has to buy from them first !
A** WTF
great value for £250 !
But I want a facelift plate ... ie without a prefix ;) British ones are going to be over 40 years old now and therefore expensive. Irish ones are much cheaper so probably my best option so far
Ah right sorry my mistake.
Still no fker can tell what age mine is ! or even what the model is. Love the anonymity I must admit !

In what way Feisty ?
Is it Northern or Southern? Registration?
Go out and buy a complete shitter of a car or bike from that period and transfer the reg, likley to be the cheapest option.

Trouble is where do you go to find a 42 year old car/bike with an mot that is not a classic?
Why do you need a mot?
Land Rover....

I think I am right here - the vehicle must have a current mot to be able to transfer the plate to another vehicle.
Can you transfer the registration from an old motorbike onto a car, or are there rules against that?
I think so - the same rules apply to any vehicle AFAIK
You can, but not from a car to a bike.

That might work out pretty cheap then :) If it was a common enough type of bike, I'd guess you could probably buy a clapped out ancient motorbike for peanuts?
The donor vehicle does need an MoT and must have had a valid tax disc within the last 6 or 12 months.
It does narrow the options a bit.

My thoughts too - saves having to pick up a knackered Honda 50 from John O'Groats too :D
Look in the back of the autotrder mate, loads in there :)
I just sold a bike which had IXI 6464 as a reg
I just bought one from here (http://www.heritageplates.co.uk/pagecheap.htm)
£69 ... bargain

was watching a repeat of 5th gear the other night all abot this. trouble is with irish plates is the N.I is the wringing capital around here cos the welding there is so good (i know this from experience but wont go into that)
this can put people off when they think the cars been in ireland.
also, the ones that you see advertised in the back of the auto trader and stuff usually dont belong to the company advertising them, if you search for the same plate on the DVLA site you will find they actually have the plate, all these companies do is take a list from the DVLA and add a huge markup to what they cost, then if someone wants one they buy it from DVLA.
DVLA auctions are the best place to go and you can get a list of what auctions have what plates prior to this and if you cant make it you can phone bid.
answer :always use the dvla if loking for an unregistered plate - they are the cheapest 99% of the time.
just thought i would pass on what i saw on the tv program for anone who might be interested.
