View Full Version : S15 Spec R Aero
Have just found SXOC. So, must introduce my car.
Current car is a Nov 2001 Silvia S15 Spec R Aero.
Imported brand new, in light silver blue colour with
aero kit/alloys/black leather interior/6spd spec.
So, the question begs - who else in the UK has an S15?

There doesn't appear to be a huge amount of people in this country that do have one, but I suspect there are a large number that would like to. Myself included.
We all demand piccies of your car though....
Btw, welcome to the board too, innit.

I'll think we'll have to shoot you now.
No, welcome. I think only stevec and NaughtyNickP are the only board members with S15s at the mo. Although, dargassi has two S15 convertibles (one for sale)!

Greg,
Souns like a V nice car mate. Sort some pics out. You the only one on here with an Aero, mine and Steve's are met. grey kitless Spec-R's but both looking at aero-kits at the mo.
I've heard that there are 10'ish Spec-R's in the country. Is that rare enough for you mate?
What made you go for an S15? Have you got previous with 200's? I had an S14 before this but had no intentions of looking for an S15 and just stumbled on it in a Performance Car dealership 5 miles from hom. Luck is not the word :notworthy
Nick
Hi mate,
Ditto what nick said, Metallic grey without aero kit.
looking for one at the mo and I am actually quite seriously considering the factory bodykt, if my mate at nissan can get hold of a price for me.
what mods you got / planning ?
I have a trust power extreme II exhaust from the front pipe back.
modded airbox with a few extra cold air feeds.
18" chrome wheels. got a front mount intercooler on order. then it'll be off to option for a remap and hopefully Kiki will be able to tease something like 330 bhp from it.
there was already a dvd player and alpine screen in the car when I got it.
I was planning on getting a civic type R but this came up and I have not looked back. still got my old S13 which I am planning on turning into a track car.
this is getting delayed though due to me having to lend it to my sister after her car being stolen...
life story over..
/Steve:thumbs:
OK ,OK pics on way!
So there are other S15 owners around! The only person I have seen in one is guy who apparently lives nr bath acording to the place i get mine serviced. Its a red S15 Spec R and could be the guy who does the drift club (as featured in the J-car mags).
Mods - looknig at taking car to Option Motorsports nr Silverstoen and seeing if they have any good ideas. the idea of a better exhaust definitley appeals and your suggestions SteveC are the way to go!
:)
In terms of wheel, am already loking into some 18's as i want to get a spare set for trackdays. especially so that i can get sopme extra traction!
Stumbled across my S15 whilst looking for a second hand R33 Skyline. I think it was the styling that first got me, and then after a test drive, the performance. Compared to my past cars, it was quite a bit quicker. My previous car was a 16v calibra. nuff said!
Q. Do any of you guys have problems with traction, when on mid-full boost - especialy when overtaking? Perhaps I am running on the wrong tyres - Pirelli's??
Before I had the S13 I had an R33 GTR V-spec.
Lovely car. couldn't afford to keep it on so many levels though.
Level 1 initial cost
level 2 hooked on modifying, next step was going to be about 6k
Level 3 roumours of redundancies 8 months ago
Level 4 regularly (I.e every time I went for a blat) exceeding 145 mph on A roads. to get the adrenaline hit.
Level 5 implications of losing my license when I got caught.
so I quit while I was ahead and went for RWD pleasure.
just as much adrenaline but a bit lower in the speed factor means I'll probably only get done for driving sideways rather than trying to set new land speed records.
I have to drive 80 miles a day to work now so I am glad I did sell.
So after 2 years of GTR ing I camee out with not a scratch on my self, my car or my lisence.
with regards to traction I am running 18 inch wheels with 255 pirelli P zero on the rear and 225 P zero on the front.
in the weather we are having at the moment it is great. make them damp though and life gets interesting. wide tyres ride over the puddles more than narrow ones.
what width tyres are you using ?
I have kept my old wheels for winter and hopefully havin a bit of a drift.
you can see my car in another thread entitled some piccies for ya.
that is if my website is still running. I didn't crop the images so it is eating bandwidth and regularly shut !!
see ya
Steve
OK - got a picture of my car.
So, whats the best way to insert it in so that you guys can view it?
Am still running the std 16's rims with Pirelli 215/55/VR16's.
woudl like to get some chrome 18's (rims) but so far need to fork out a grand for a set as thay aren't cheap.
:(
Q. Anybody going to Trax2003 at Silverstone?
Just add it as an attachment in your post.
I've just found SXOC, thanks to a member seeing me car whilst in for service at the local dealership. I've been driving Silvias / 200SXs for the last 14 years.
I bought my S15 Silvia SpecR Aero (red) on impulse when on a business trip to Tokyo in winter '99. I'd later fancied going back for a variata (hard top convertible) but it doesn't come in Turbo version. I've yet to see another S15 on the road so I'll keep a look out for you. It may be coming up for sale soon, so anyone interested keep watching this site as I'll post it here first.....

I think you fella's would like to look on the Autotrader website quick!
There is a 528 bhp(!!!!!!!) Spec-R advertised. However, I'm afraid it's going to be for viewing purposes only as I found out this morning it has been sold.
I was going to try to trade mine in for it becasue it is the same one I saw in Top Marques 12 months ago. It was advertised for £18k then and it has been sold 12 months later for the same price! Which, I am very happy about :D
Comparing the mods on that car to mine, gives me a bit of confidence that more money spent on AeroKits and mods is not going dissappear up the swanny.
I spoke to the dealer and he told me the car was bought from new for £39k and sold within 3 days.

Thinking about changing my S14a for someything a little more exclusive. Never really gave the S15 a second thought. Till now. What is the car like as a whole compared to the S14?
Does it handle better?
What bhp does it have?
Do they come with a boost gauge as standard?
Whats the difference with the R spec model?
What it like to get it insured?
Do they have a FMIC?
Does much go wrong with them?
Would be greatful if you lads can give me as much info as possible. One question a nearly forgot, is where can I get one from? If anyone is looking at getting rid, I maybe interested!

I had an R33 GTR sold it and got an S13 then got the S15 as well as the S13.
The S15 feels like a really well sorted S13 to drive.
STD has the same sort of power to weight as my R33 had when I first got it.
by the time I am finished it will have the same power/weight as the R33 had with 415 bhp.
There is almost no body roll at all. it is a real handful in the wet. and if you are not ready for the tail out it can be fun in the dry too..
Does it handle better?
Apparently it is a lot tighter and better handling.
I wouldn't know though as I have never driven an S14.
What bhp does it have?
Spec - r 250 bhp.
induction kit and exhaust with uprated stage 1 boost- 300 ish
FMIC + boost and fuelling upgrade ~ 340 bhp with 300 + lb/ft torque.
Do they come with a boost gauge as standard?
Spec R yes, the other non turbo ones have an oil pressure or temp gauge there instead.
Whats the difference with the R spec model?
guage, power, dunno about the rest.
What it like to get it insured?
Not too good, expect to pay between 700 and 1000 in std trim
Do they have a FMIC?
no WMIC but it is bigger than the S14 one.
Does much go wrong with them?
dunno yet

hope this helps.

I had a standard S14 tourer. The S15 is a totally different car and knocks the bollox off my S14. However, that is no disrespect to the S14 in that my S15 wasn't standard when I got it so I don't know what it was like in vanilla form.
Yes, like Steve said, it can be a handfull in the wet but that's rear wheel drive turbo cars for you. The response is much better than the S14, you know it's going a lot sooner than the S14.
I've had mine over 12 months and all it's had maintenance wise apart from servicing is a thrust bearing. It's solid! I love it and can't fault it.
I'll send you some contact details for a couple of lads who will find you what you want while they are on a visit to Japan. Otherwise, I think some details exist on a previous post in the S15 section that I posted a bit ago.

Just a quick note... Pirelli P Zero tyres are the wrong tyres for a 200sx.. they have a very stiff side wall and are designed for the heavier sports cars.. 1700-1800kg +
Mrmajestic:
What do you recommend? Pirellis are what i use and they seem ok until you want to accelerate hard (major wheelspin). I regularly check the pressure and the alignment/tracking.
Ideas?
For Stevec
NOTE: There are a couple of direct Japanese car importers (Charlesworths, VBJ etc) who could possibly get S15's from Japan. Check Top Marques magazine under "Extreme Sports" section.

Its been said before... but you really can't go wrong with the Goodyear F1's. Good mix of dry and wet grip with good wear. Toyo's have a soft compound and are better in the wet, but will wear down quicker because of this.

I use F1's on mine and they are great. The car had Yokahama's when I first got it and when it was wet they might as have been full slicks. The F1's are lasting surprisingly long also and that's while "enjoying" the car also.
Well my beloved S15 SpecR Aero is eventually up for sale.
It's 1999 Red with around 30K on the clock (can't remember exactly).
I imported the car personally from Tokyo when it had done only 495 km.
Anyone who is seriously interested send me a private message.

If you want to get some interest, put a post in the for sale section. Also a price usually helps to get the interest up and pics won't do you any harm either :)
