An S2000 with a knackered engine has come in as a new project for DriftGarage.

Pics courtesy of Pete, whose car was for sale before deciding to go ahead with the SR fitment instead:

Firstly the old knackered F20 had to be removed:

One of the mounts was a bit seized:

Plenty of room for an SR20?

Then the test fitting of the SR20DET:

All updates going on the Driftgarage blog here: DriftGarage | Nissan 200SX and Skyline Road, Drift and Race preparation (http://www.driftgarage.co.uk)

and of course on facebook:

Been busy today chopping away clearance so the engine and box can be fitted as one unit, then lining up the unit so mounts can be made up. This is the worst bit for me, such a pain in the arse. Anyway, I have the engine mount brackets buzzed together and will be making jigs tomorrow so I can make some proper ones up. I used a test engine and box I have, as it has no exhaust manifold on it. I want to be sure that the turbo and manifold can be replaced with the engine in situ.

Massive thanks to Brian who made the other one for some good advice on this conversion. He had his one out last night and even at 0.8 bar is plenty of fun

More updates to hopefully follow tomorrow, where more work will be done to get the SR20 mounts made.

You know a couple of sr20 motors are gonna pull a premium this close to racewars,

I bet there's more than a 100 grand under the hood of that car.

I'm sure you realise this is a rare opportunity so I hope you forgive me for the cleche

Looks awesome!

Looks like a great conversion.

Are you using a S14 diff?

No, it's sticking with the S2000 rear end setup.

I stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure the crank and prop of the S2000 turn anti-clockwise.

Yeah I've been doing some googling and it does seem the S2000 engine does turn clockwise, so all is good

just had a quick google as i then doubted myself but s2000 engines are standard clockwise as far as i can see

EDIT:

Shame the S15 box is so different despite having the same model number :wack:

Question....

Why?
Just out of interest. I mean, is the F20 so bad it can't be sorted or is expensive to sort? or is it a just for the hell of it conversion lol

Anyone know the weight difference in the two engines?

I think mainly because it's expensive to sort, it's cheaper to do the conversion and gain power and torque in the process.

Oh, and for the hell of it too :D

Fair enough then lol.

Little update. It took all day making the jigs and one of the engine mount brackets. I always worry that things won't be sturdy enough so it sometimes slows me down (as does working alone, because I had to go out once to source some plate and then again to to welding supplies place) but I think this should do it, as it's 5mm throughout.

Put the pattern onto a plate and made a basic jig, then removed it and used an SR20 mount to make adaptors rather than complete units...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/mitchyc/Honda%20SR2000/Jigbrackets2.jpg

Tacked the bits into place...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/mitchyc/Honda%20SR2000/Jigbrackets3.jpg

Removed and welded them up, then checked them for alignment in the jig...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/mitchyc/Honda%20SR2000/Jigbrackets4.jpg

Then primered up...

Next job is to make the other side and the gearbox mount, then find how much needs chopping out to make clearance for the turbo. Next time the engine is in I need to measure up the prop and get it away, or there'll be no chance of getting it back before Christmas so will delay things til the New Year.

I'm glad he did this because after seeing it on DW I was seriously considering buying it and doing the same whilst pretending it was a gift for the misses :wack:
