How easy is it to do?
What are the benefits other than the obvious more power?
How easy is it to get turbos etc?

Someones out the kill themselves! Bikes are silly quick anyway.

Other benefits would probably be noise and looks (shiney exhausts etc).

nah...
I just fancy starpping a turbo onto a 250 or smaller bike, maybe a little DV too... :D :D :D

Just for that extra poke... but I fear my insurance would never allow it!

get yourself a long long swing arm to shift the center of gravity forward ... and get yourself Nitrous :D

There are loads of bike modding bits ...... you can get turbos .. but at expence ... its generally not done ....... for the price of modding its easier to upgrade the bike ... until you get to race and drag bikes.

but its the same as cars

HI

Kawasaki and I think Honda did some very early bikes between the late 80's and early 90's which were turbo'd as standard.

Cant remember the models they produced but I am sure you could fit dump valves etc to them quite easily.

I think the bikes were around the 600 - 750cc mark.

Would be cool though!

Oh and the benifits would be fantastic wheelies when the turbo kicked in!!!

You don't need a turbo on a modern bike :wack:

I've been looking at a Yamaha 600 fazer and as standard it does 0-60 in about 3.5 secs, 0-100 in about 10, and 140mph.

Kawasaki used to make a GPZ750Turbo, Suzuki made a...oh fcuk it can't remember now, I'll have a look for some links

Suzuki XN 85 Turbo (673cc)Info here (http://www.xn85turbo.com/index.html)

There's a couple for you, there was a lad around town many years ago who had a gpz turbo, just took off on boost, not very progressive though, wouldn't like to ride one in the wet, if you could ever find one.

Discussed this with some biker mates a while ago and the consessus was that allthough in theory it was indeed possible, in practice it was not for a variety of reasons.

Have a look at www.racingflix.com (you need to register) there's a video in the bikes section of a turbo'd GSXR 600.......INSANE!!!!!!

The Kawasaki Turbo from the 80's was renowned as being a bit dangerous...boost coming in with a bang etc.

They don't really need turbos as they're very quick in standard form compared to most cars, particuarly the 600cc or larger bikes. As the GSXR600 video shows, turbos turn them into uncontrollable wheelie monsters :)

You tune 4 stroke bikes exactly the same as you would a car. Exhaust, filter, ignition advancer, ported heads, camshafts, big bore kits, carburettor jet kits, larger bore carburettors etc.

On the latest fuel injected bikes you can get new chips and the Power Commander piggy back Fuel/Ignition controller.

Stu paints his bikes pearl pink....

Anyways - turbocharging a 2-stroke would royally kill the power as modern strokers have pressure wave tuned exhausts. Sticking a windmill at the top of it all would naff it right up.

Supercharging a 2 stroke would work - but then the drive power loss would sorta negate the benefit.

The last Turbo bike I rode was an early 90s GSX-R1100 oil cooled thing (L or M model I think)

It started life as a stock Gixxer.

Then got Stage 3'd
Then overbored to 1420
Then RayJay Turbo'd

Then NOS on top!!!

  :D :D

I rode it once and bottled it at about 130mph - it was still accelerating like it was in 1st gear...

Several weeks later it topped 207mph at Bruntingthorpe.

It finished life with something like 320bhp with the gas... turning a sub 8 second 1/4 mile (these are from memory (faded) )

You don't think I'd crack the double on two wheels do ya? Feck no!!!

The fastest I ever got a bike to was an old ZZR-1100 with enlarged intakes and a few other bits inc a calibrated speedo

Coaxed it to 188mph on the M23
