Ok guy's and gal's, talking to a client at work today... turned into a bit of a social. But anyway she asked me what would I do if I didn't do what I do. Get my drift???? I have no idea what I could if suddenly there was no design related jobs :(
Si :)
Mate I think we're all in the same boat :(
I haven't got a clue what I'd do if it didn't involve PCs in some sense!

I'm in that sort of situation myself I guess. The job I had been in for 11 years became, errrm, unavailable to me.;) and am now forced to try my hand at something new. However because the work I did was fairly specialised and did it more or less since leaving college I dont have any real experience in anything else at all.
So, stuck in a shite job that pays a pittance desperately thinking of the one job that I could get that would suit my needs i.e. able to do the job well, enjoyable, secure and pays well.
Tricky little fecker isnt it?
If i was not a plumber i would be a sparky
would not mind being both :smash: :D
if i was not either.... i really would not mind trying to be a Driving Instuctor :D
LOL Steve, you could be a novelty garden gnome for the Rich n Famous ! :)
Id re-train to be a plumber. Ive got a business management degree but Id hate to get into middle management, not my cup of tea.
In fact I dont really want to be a plumber either but theres a shortage of decent plumbers so plenty of work out there and it pays quite well.
Id try to get into property management and ownership :)

Dunno how long this is gonna be the case, loads of plumbing courses are oversubscribed, so there will probably be loads of crap plumbers around in a year or so:D
I am trying to find some other skills to develop (currently a programmer). If the worse comes to the worse I could always fall back on the mechanic stuff, but I am gona try some chippying courses as well.
[edited] to say thats wood work chippying and not frying fish and chips!

I have been thinking this for a while!
I realy need a new job as I'm on shit money and am bored as hell!
I've always worked in offices doing a range of stuff, except working in a bank for a year which was even worse!
But I turned 25 this year so think its about time i pulled my finger out and got a decent job!
Have actualy been think of the Police!
20k starting wage, 4 days on, 4 days off, and retire at 55 with a decent pension!
Any one any other suggestions which don't require years of training?

Police is bad enough with yes sir etc, but could no way cope with been in the army!
Yes £20k and rises £1k each year!
But its the 4 days off and retire at 55 which is realy appealing!
Softies, you don't listen to the beastings its all just part of army bollox. You forget about all that when they let you chew thru a brick wall with a gimpy :)
Army is well cool - maybe the RAF
I was gonna join the Police was all ready but then got offered a IT job and couldn't say no.
Police woulda been ideal - wanted to become Traffic Cop or Mounted Police
I would kicked arse:annoyed: and sprayed everyone with my CS gas!:whip:
The handcuffs would have been fun at home as well as at work :smitten: ;)
I'm a design Engineer, but I'd accept a pay cut to do a more car related job (Mechanic at a good workshop that does tuning would be perfect).
I'd work in the Securicor call centre, like I am doing part time now. It's local, it pays well and would give me the time to open up the market again.

Even if i don't like it will have spare money to spend on the car (when i get it) and 4 days off to look for a new job!

the design market.
There's one now, if it collapsed tomorrow then there would be the opportunity to reopen it again
I've thinking about a career change for a while. I have several options...
1. If my company does as well as it should in the next year i'll retire!
2. If the company doesn't do as well, but does just well enough... move to France, purchase cheap farm, find wife, have kids, milk goats...

3. If company goes tits up and i'm left redundant...
PANIC!!!!
Heh no if my sector of work didn't exist i'd probably be a race mechanic. Designing gears or something like that.

I'm a design engineer in a car related job :D
I kind of fell into being a designer, although now I look back on it the job suits me very well. I've no idea what else I'd do....

  :furious: :D
only 17 at the mo thought i would get a trade when the plumbing course was dead (last year) then all of a sudden the whole of england when crazy and all wanted to be plumbers
seeing as most of the plumbers out there are comming towards retirement age i belive there is work out there..... as long as you are good at your trade.... i am going for my corgi and Nvq level 4 having just completed level 2
i am enjoying the job alot as i am block relase college/ and my work placement
i would like to go into the more specialised part of the job
theres more to plumbing than just plumbing :D
i would like to get in with britsh gas then train up and try and start my own little business in about 10 or so years time
its all pie in the sky but i guess you have gotta have a goal :)
