View Full Version : What will music be like in the future?

Here's a question that I've been pondering over for a few days: If old people moan at our present-day music and say it's crap and that the stuff from their day was real music, what will we all be moaning at in fifty years time? What form will music take then? Will today's stuff be regarded as classics? Think about it
You know I've thought about that. Imagine your kids' kids saying that your music is crap and I've been thinking what sort of electronic weirdness will THEY be listening to?
Dave
I was thinking about this when I was bored working in the music dept. in Woolies over Xmas. If you think about, is there such thing as infinity? If not, then surely all music arrangements will be used up and thus no more 'new' music will be able to be made?
Or am I talking more bull shit?

Could this be why we get so many covers done these days?

Probably more to do with the fact that covers are a cheap and easy way of churning out chart toppers
I was also thinking if it would be possible to 'engineer' the perfect collection of songs by taking the raw elements of songs that sold well and using them (along with good raw elements of other songs) to make a 'perfect' song. If you get me....:wack:

lol, not necessarily the actual music from songs, more so the elements of a song that make it what it is. For example, how the song is layered at certain intervals etc. And then combine all these elements from the best all time songs to make the all time song. :wack:
My musical creating ability in percentage terms is around 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000001% give or take a couple of noughts. :( :p :D
Hmm, anyone any good with sequencing??? come on people, lets create the ultimate tune :D

Maybe the music of the future will be more than just sound? Perhaps it could be engineered to stimulate other senses in humans, maybe through light or sub/supersonic vibrations or some new technology not yet invented? Maybe the music of the future will be able to manipulate our emotions somehow, allowing the composer/artist to control more than just what we hear?
Or is that a bit too far out there?
Apparently, I've heard that us humans may even have more senses than we already have.

I meant more directly and deliberately. Don't know how it'd work, but they'll have to find some way of keeping music new and interesting. Was just a thought :)
I can just hear myself now ......
"Back in my day music had proper lyrics that you could dance too, you younguns wouldn't know proper lyrics if it hit you in the face! Here listen to this"
(hands over Never Mind the B*ll*cks)
"Give that a try, they don't make tunes like that anymore"
Makes you wonder what tea dances are going to be like in the future doesn't it :wack:
