Seems everyone on here had a BMW or Land Rover as a second car so thought id follow suit and get a works vehicle :D

Spec is as follows :
2 front seats and the rear converted into storage / work vehicle
HD winch bumper but no winch
Front spot lights and light bar
Different front grill
Steering guard
New HD springs
De-EGR'd
De-ACE'd
General Grabber AT² tyres
HD rear bumper
Rear light guards

Picked up a bit of an issue with a squeaky aux belt but for now here are a few pictures as she stands :

Nice  Don't worry about it being an auto - if you waited for a manual you'd probably be waiting forever :wack: Also nothing wrong with a TD5. Unless you want to put up with 15mpg, then go for a V8   Even on LPG they work out more expensive to run than a TD5.

As of tomorrow evening I'll be on the lookout for a Discovery 2 also

Why has it been de ace'd? Is that for reliability/offroading?

DLowe

mines averaging about 26mpg at the min, just ordered a de-egr kit and have a full set of filters and oil to service, so should improve that

I am running on Insa Turbo Mud terrains aswell - 265/75/16's :)

It's a Landrover, it was probably leaking :D

I de-aced mine becasue one of the pipes was leaking and they were all looking a bit corroded, and land rover are asking £400+ for the pipe set, where as the de-ace pulley and new belt are £30, you can get non ace ARB's for around £70 each too

Like that

Cheers chaps

The auto is nice for a daily as means I can much up some miles at ease and seems everyone is scared of autos as said above !

V8 was not a possibility as after playing with classic Range Rover ones I hate them :wack:

Deaced mainly because as said it costs alot when it goes wrong so id rather keep it simple with springs :)

Im not going down the agressive tyre route as turns it from a comfy daily to noisy and annoying like my last Discovery

This has full service history and ha had the oil pump bolt issue sorted, three amigos sorted, sunroofs sorted, chassis oiled every year etc so been well looked after.

Should do me well - was debating putting the rear seats back in but cant be bothered as there are only two of us here anyways :D

Paul do you mind if I ask how much that set you back? After driving my parents one I'm almost tempted to swap my series III for one  I wouldn't be all that bothered if it was an auto either :)

Yeah i remember the ACE. My Dad had a very early TD5 as a company car. I borrowed it to take my grandparents down the station. I gave it some mega stick on the way home and blew one of the ACE pipes in the engine bay. It got taken back to landrover who were getting alot of them back at the time. Once repaired it was excellent. Had great grip on tarmac. Really miss that one.

£3.5k but it involved a loooooooooooooooooong trip

All I could find out way is facelift manuals for £5k upwards :(

Thats still a bit too much for me to consider getting rid of mine :( Shame really as they are pretty comfortable dailys as well as being great tow cars and fun off road

Yea its quite a bit but then a tidy late 300Tdi weill still set you back £2k

Mines more of a daily and a work car - wouldnt pay that much if it was just a daily tbh

Been scouring Autotrader and Ebay recently, there are plenty of 300TDIs going for £4k

DLowe
17-08-2011, 07:17
How much

I gave 2k for my manual TD5!!

I knew I was cheeky with the offer, but they accepted it straight away

voodoo_melon

Wish they were that cheap round here  There's only two TD5s under £3500 within 40 miles of me, going to look at this one (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201131408640397/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/6000/model/discovery/make/land_rover/radius/40/page/1/keywords/td5/postcode/e114ll?logcode=p) at the weekend if it's still around :)

Thats coz a lot of people rate a tidy 300tdi over a slightly scruffy TD5  a lot less to go wrong :)

Jim

But I got a tidy td5 for 2k ;)

Where are you lot finding these cars?!?

Mark

Yes but because the early ones are prone to issues people gather paying a but more for a late 300 is a better bet :)

voodoo, you need to stop looking at trade adverts, you will get a much better deal private.

voodoo_melon
17-08-2011, 09:22
Yep that's true, but I still can't find any for £2k  I did have a look at one (no intention of buying, just to take a look at one), 2001 Y plate TD5 ES - £6k

Mark
17-08-2011, 09:24
Well you wont see them advertised for 2k ;)

DLowe
17-08-2011, 10:59
Mine was advertised at £3200, I was told they would take £2800 ;) but I was embarrisingly cheeky with my offer and they accepted no quibbles :)

Jammy git, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a nice one but not in any rush.

Paulpen

Yea they dont seem to come cheap easily but there are out there.

This popped up at the right time and price for me and although it may not look like much its totally faultless with awesome service history and two previous very picky owners that were so keen they both brought £500 of home diagnostic equipment to make sure things were ok with it :wack:
