Its cr@p! Here in germany weve got 100RON fuel offered by shell for several months now. Ive tested it well and the result: Not better than optimax but fookin expensive.

Weve got:

95RON(super unleaded): 1.05
98RON(optimax): 1.10
100RON(shell vpower): 1.25

Mmmmm...... 100ron......

Trouble is they'll charge an arm and a leg for it over here if they do decide to sell it

I'm happy with Opti, so if they try to charge more than that they can feck off.

Well f*cked off tongiht. Am in Blackburn, and needed some more fuel. No Shell stations so I went to the local Esso and BP. HOW MUCH FOR F*CKING 98RON?? Would you like one of my bollocks and the shirt off my back too???

Bastards. Never thought I'd see the day where Optimax looked like good value.

Off topic slightly

Does anyone know an email address for Shell as I'd like to inform them that travelling 12 miles to fill up and then 12 miles back is ridiculous!

Here's what I sent them on that website:

"This fuel would undoubtedly be a hit if you released it in the UK. I am in many performance car clubs, all of whom use Shell's Optimax as their fuel of choice for it's known benefits. Your fuel is of higher octane and I don't doubt everyone would change to this if it was at the same price point as Optimax. Why not release it here?"

If a significant number of people send them something similar, they may well bring it here.

It wont be the same price as Optimax, itll be 14% more minimum :(

Thats the way it went in germany and everywhere else they invented it.

Got this reply from BP this morning.

"Thank you for your interest in the launch of BP Ultimate in Greece. In other countries and markets, we are still researching opportunities and carrying out customer research.

But, as you may understand, if and when we launch in other countries such as the UK is at this time commercially sensitive and confidential, for competitive reasons.

Kind regards,

Annabel Vasseur"

Dear Brian ,

Thank you for your interest in the launch of BP Ultimate in Greece
, and thanks a lot for your positive feed back!

In other countries and markets, we are still researching opportunities and carrying out customer research.

But, as you may understand, if and when we launch in other countries such as the UK is at this time commercially sensitive and confidential, for competitive reasons.

We should keep you posted!

Filled up at one of these dual brand motorway petrol stations on the way back from Heathrow yesterday morning. Esso wanted 5p per litre more for their Super Unleaded compared to Shell Optimax. WTF

Just replied to BP to tell them I wouldn't be willing to pay much more (if ANY more) than Opti.

Why bother with Optimax? I used to use it but I get better mpg with Esso sul and no loss of performance. Having read some posts on scoobynet about Optimax causing det at higher revs with higher boost levels I thought I would try sul again. Can't really see the point in "SHELLING" the extra money for Opti when sul does the same job? Unless anyone knows different?

Optimax in the uk is 100ron. The reason Shell do not state anywhere the rating of the fuel is due to taxation. i.e for every 1 ron the fuel companies have to pay a lot more tax. For this reason Shell sell Optimax as a normal 95 ron fuel just called optimax. Just look at the price of 106ron 76 fuel £2.50 per litre this is only this price because of the tax increase. That is why Optimax is so cheap compared to other super fuel

If you buy 105 RON race fuel (not for road use), isn't it ever so slightly cheeper than pump fuel, because there's no tax on it.
Of course, using it on the road is illegal as you've paid no tax on it, but how are they ever going to catch you?

Optimax isn't 100ron - have a look here:

Pah, Ben beat me to it

Interesting that Millers stated that it was 98.3, whereas I have seen Shell specs of 98.8.

Richie
29-07-2003, 16:15
I have also found out that most places claim it to be 98.6Ron but I was having a chat with someone yesterday and they were saying that on the RR the bhp increase with Optimax were showing that it was more like 100Ron

I wonder how far you can advance your timing with 105 octane fuel?

Much flamage then!
I cant remember the octane rating for it but it was quite high, and readily available from your local airport.

Richie

Don't put Avgas in your engine. It has a tendency to melt them. I could run my car all day long on Avgas as I have pretty much unlimited supply but I wouldn't even try it.

dont 76 make drag fuel that increases the ron of the fuel?

Richie
29-07-2003, 18:47
76 make lot of different rated fuel from 106-130ron

What about mixing a bit of it with Tescos donkey piss to improve the octane of that fuel to about 100 RON?

Just filled up at my local BP and a new sticker on the super leaded said Ultimate - does this mean its here now???

Only I heard from someone that BP are going to compete against Shells Optimax with this over here now. Don't know how reliable this is.;)
