2000 ford fiesta zetec S, 1.6 petrol 94768 miles, bought it off ebay as a mot fail for £600 :D
It failed on the rear subframe bushes and emissions,
the plan is to change:
the rear bushes for powerflex items
get the emissions retested at another garage but it probably just needs a new lambda sensor
get another steering wheel
sort out the rear arch rust which is quite bad
put some injecter cleaner in as it starts rough
get my mate to possibly test diagnostic the ecu
other than that it actually drives quite nice, steering is sharp and the power is alrght and quite gripy in the dry :)

yeh i thought it was at the time, well i only saw it 40 mins before it ended and the guy i was in a bidding war with said after the auction that his iphone died before it ended :D
I didnt however notice the big dent by the passenger door, the wing and door and seal are bent in! i have made it a bit better but the wing will have to come off now, also ordered the powerflex bushes...£46
I keep noticing small surface rust spots all over the car, it could get expensive getting it sprayed everywhere :(

i like fiestas yonks back i had every hot fester and my mums had 3 aswell,
last feb i bought me mums old 1.25 w plater for my son,at the time i was looking up what they are worth and i was very surprised at the number of these with dead engines!!!
i'd sell the 1.6 before it pops and drop a 2 litre mondeo lump in it,near damn it 150 bhp against 1.6s 115 bhp simple to do iirc, use same b5 g/box then swap sump 4 fiesta 1.8 xr2 or rs1.8 with pick-up and water pump from fiesta and couple of other simple swap bits, use fiesta clutch on mondy flywheel i think the info on rs owners i believe
mates done this to a mk3 xr2i proper stripped out and it a very rapid car tbh (but deadly in the wet lol)
do it on the cheap as well paint or vinyl wrap it your self?? have fun lol
The engines die because people dont keep an eye on the oil level  Sigmas love a drop of the black stuff :wack:
Puma 1.7 lump is a popular conversion

Puma 1.7 lump is a popular conversion
That would certainly make this interesting, do many get done?
That would certainly make this interesting, do many get done?
that probs the most common conversion for a zetec s :wack:
theres probs a few on ebay now with it done ;)
I've done 12 puma swaps. It's one of the most basic swaps short of fitting a like for like engine. Still own a Mk4 Pumesta but she's for sale next month :(
Love those cars, love those engines. MPG is pretty damn good for a 1.7 Petrol tbh. Prefer the Phase 2 ZS like yours too.
Only issue I've ever had with Mk4/5 fiesta/puma has been rear arch lip rust. My current car is the worst example.

yeh a mate of mine put a mondeo 2.0 in a stripped out mk3 fiesta and that went like stink but i was thinking a bit more like the 2.3 lump out of the galaxy :wack:
but yeh ford engines and all bits are dirt cheap and i will consider the puma conv... how much to do one complete swap ?

right, fitted the powerflex rear subrame bushes and man that was hell getting them out! after hacking away that rubber and then spending over an hour chiseling at the outer shell each side they are in and what a difference, it turns so much better and the ride is still pretty good too. Battery went dead yesterday and it took just under 3 hours to charge that night but i put it in this morning and it wouldnt start!
turns out when i removed the battery terminals i tripped the fuel cut off switch :horse:
But now it smokes a bit and the lambda doesnt look that old so maybe injectors ?
also bought new battery and new plugs
oh went to see a set of these today!

The 2.3 DOHC is a long engine and i doubt it would fit in a fiesta without a special sump. Not very tunable either :(

i was so close to just setting fire to them and burning the car to pieces but its all good now,

Oh right thats a poo pooer, so a 1.7/2.0 would be better but then i think the 1.6 isnt that bad tbh, i think with exhuast, throttle bodies, uprated fuel pump and a few bits u could get that upto maybe 150bhp ?
throttle boddies and cams, then get emerald or omex etc and that would be awsome

Hell yea of course :wack:
If u wanna TB the 1.6, just fit a 1.7 or 2.0 and TB that. Very tuneable and for the cost of a block u can get another few bhp standard. Depends how involved u wanna get, a 1.7 is so easy it's unreal. Just make sure ur donor engine comes from a 1.7 puma with a digital speedo to match ur ZS digital speedo if u wanna keep it simple. (U will lose ur foglights regardless so they require wiring up seperately).
the 2.0 uses different engine mounts and possibly mounting locations compared to dropping in a 1.7 I think, so a couple of now off the shelf custom bits and bobs can be bought to sort that out.
Or go a little mad and fit a 2.0T Duratec RS/Fiesta ST150 engine.
Or very mad and cosworth, SR20, 2.5T Volvo, vtec it. There are many engines that have lots of tuning options, more so than a 2.3 or RS2000 engines. Just depends how big ur budget is and how good ur fabrication skills are. I agree with Mark, the 2.3 and 2.0 DOHC engines from the escort RS2000 and Galaxy aren't hugely popular as they aren't as tuneable, purely because the 2.0 Zetec and the others have so many more off the shelf options and the knowledgebase behind it. If you can think of it, it's probs been done, and if it hasn't, there's probs a good reason for it. U wont gain extra brownie points for fitting a difficult, unpopular engine. You'll just make the process more expensive/difficult than it needs to be.

well i think i will leave the engine conversion on the back burner for now but cheers for the info and help :D
Now i got my weller wheels i just test fitted the rims on the car, rear is fine but Doh! dont fit over the front calipers :annoyed:
so the options i can think of are:
1. buy and fit ford Ka brakes :ghey:
2. buy mooosive 25/30 spacers :D
3. refurb and sell on for a small profit :smash:
Any suggestions guys ?

small update,
Got my mate to hook his dianostic tester on his laptop and the lambda was the offender, so i bought a new one off ebay £18 which is cheap and it was for a ford and looked exactly like the one i have but did i get that 1 in the picture nooo, so have call them tomorrow :furious:
Also bought this...:D

also attack the rear arches, the passnger side will need a section welded in and the drivers is not to bad.

it failed again! :annoyed:
this time when the bloke revved it to 4000 rpm it started chucking out loads of smoke, it smelled of oil which was not good!
So i did a compression test and 210 psi over all chambers :D
So could it be stem seals ?
Sounds like it could be breathers or like you say stem seals are on the way our.

yeh but my mate at work asked his mate who said if its white smoke it could be burning coollant, now the tank was full when i emptyed it. It could be a cracked block but i dont think so coz the compression test was good, head gasket or a leak somewhere.
Gonna take all the pipes off and water pump and check it all.
