Hi fellas

back of mi hols now. What do you reckon to this:

1990 mazda RX7
90,000 miles
Bright Red paint work in mint condition
std alloys
12 months mot

£100.00

Bad point:

it will start every time without fail, except when the engine is swithed off ofter being on a long run it needs to cool before restarting. been told its some bushes in the engine thats worn down.

been quoted £200 inc vat for these parts, but so i belive its a rotary engine which are apparantly a b8stered to work on.

What do you think worth it or not to bother

I know the rotary engine needs rebuilding after a certain amount of miles but i cant remember how many and can cost about £2,000 - £3,000..

I have a friend who rebuilds these engines.....

Worked for Mazda for many many years, also worked for an RX7 tuning company.

Let me know if you get the car....

The (standard) engine should be built every 60k, but if you start tweeking it then this will reduce.

Let us know how it goes - I was damn close to getting an old RX7 instead of the S13. It was the MPG that put me off, but at that sort of money who cares?

I'm assuming it'd be the rotor tips??? but any ****el (hmm swear filter???) owners should have a better idea of this. I'd blat around like a hooligan for a while - for the sake of a ton they're a must-drive car.

Definitely go for it. For £100 you'd be crazy not too.

The story goes that although the rotories tend to need a bit more TLC slightly more often, the lack of moving parts mean that they're great for tuning. Less moving parts also means that there's less to repair and replace. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that you could buy a racing spec 13B for the same price as a decent Japanese SR20 stroker kit.

As you can tell, I'm a big FC3S RX7 fan :D I blame Initial D!
