View Full Version : McNish's crash!
Shit an actual Dick! Glad he's okay and managed to walk away! Some very lucky photographers too!! I was watching the race live on audi TV and saw it happen, I couldnt believe my eyes
One of the worst crashes at Le Mans ive seen in recent years!

 That's huge!

Help ma bob thats a big bugger.
McNish was prob in the safest place during that crash, cant say the same for the photographers :wack:
Saw a clip of this on FB a few mins ago  Lucky to walk away from that!!
I believe this is officially known as a 'yard sale'

Woooft.
How none of the photographers were killed I will never know. INSANE!!!
Fecking lucky that wheel didn't land on them  Looked like most of them didn't even know it was in the air
 Stone the crows thats a beut of a smash!

Hellish! That wheel just coming out of the air is pretty scary.
Mental! True testament to safety & modern technology!

Watching that live on Eurosport was scary, I honestly thought multiple people were kiilled during that accident, especially with all the debris / bouncing wheel, most of them were oblivious!
I had a horrible feeling in my stomach until they revealed no one hurt. Top work to the ferrari for getting back out. McNish was going so hard from the start, not quite sure what happened, it was as though he didn't realise the ferrari was there?

Those tog's need to buy a lotto ticket tonight. How that car didn't clear the barrier i'll never know
Another massive smash for Audi, Mike Rockenfeller this time :( Clipped another Ferrari like McNish
That's a really scary one tbh, I feel a bit sick watching it :( Can only hope Dr Ullrich is right and Rocky did leave the car by himself, it looked very very worrying.
Just seen the outside footage, looks fecking savage :(

Watching it quite a few times, it's amazing how the ferrari manages to scrub almost all of it's (equivalent) speed in the gravel trap - the Audi appears to scrub NONE of it.
Another huge crash has just happend invoving an Audi. Looks pretty bad :(

Apparently he got out by himself but yeah it looked like a big one

I'm still a little concerned tbh... look at the body language of the people in the Audi garage. Ullrich, Joest boss, one of the other drivers and other Audi board members having a chat and looking more than a little upset.

From what I've read rockenfella is ok but I imagine it's been a pretty stressful day writing off 2 cars in such big fashion. Few hundred million euro's down the pan I imagine?!

That's HUGE!!  Ferrari driver cut off his route :( what a bloody muppet! You can't do that at speeds of up to 200mph
I'm not so sure....yes the Ferrari was taking the racing line there, but he's been briefed to stick to the racing line and let the faster cars drive around them. Probably quite hard to tell exactly where the Audi was if all you can see is super bright lights in your mirror. At the same time, the Audi is in flat out race mode, he's on that side of the track, why should he lift and wait to see what the Ferrari does?
Easy to be the judge from our armchairs though, only 2 people know exactly why it happened.
That's HUGE!!  Ferrari driver cut off his route :( what a bloody muppet! You can't do that at speeds of up to 200mph
Which one? The second one? He didn't cut off his route intentionally, he just didn't see him. Big difference in speed, the guy can't be checking his mirrors the whole time.
And the first one it was McNish's fault, he came from two cars back and overtook on a bend, the guy in front is commited to the bend.
Forgive me, missed loads. Is Rockenfeller ok?

Sounds like it
Sweet. Crashes are spectacular and totally awesome IF the chaps escape OK.
Apparently only a small cut on his arm, otherwise fine
McNishs' crash looked massively his fault and a bit silly IMO, BUT good thing hes ok from that cos i didnt think he would be after seeing it, and the people around! I suppose its a competition to beat the others. The second one, couldnt really see what happened, going to look for another video :)
Disgusting behaviour from the Pugs and the stewards. You're going 4 laps down, wind your neck in.

Proves hes a Highlander
interesting difference between team bosses Ullrich and Quesnel. Ones tuetonic, and unflappable, the others a sneaky bastard! hes the same when hes team boss of Citreon in the WRC:furious:
not a huge fan of either, but audi as a team have acted professionally against all odds, gotta respect that :clap:

Too true about pugs, the dirty git!..Really uncalled for!
Im glad the #73 is still running, been watching that live when ive been at home! Cracking drive from what Ive seen :D
Some more good photos can be found on here >> http://www.facebook.com/michelinlemanslive
Yeah man, that Peugeot was driving like a proper donkey! Very surprised at that.
what have pug done? can't see what you guys are talking about!

The pug was a few laps down and blocking the audi almost pushing it on to the grass on the mulsanne straight

ah right, thanks. yeah that sounds out of order, especially when they know how big the accidents have been from backmarker passing...
I missed the earlier "scrap" between the Audi and the #7 Pug with Davidson on board, but alledgedly he was making it tough for the Audi lap him for a 4th time. They had got a lap back when Lotterer in the Audi came to lap the #7 Pug with Gene driving again for the 4th time, who basically acted the cnut on team orders with the team claiming there were no blue flags out.

Contact made in the chicane, then squeezes him right out on the Mulsanne.
Audi take the win, and let's be honest, VERY well deserved!
that's pretty terrible, not good to see davidson doing that as I rate him as a good driver and you'd expect him to not put up such a fight when it's not his prerogative to do so...
Good to see audi win, 1 unluckyish and 1 very unlucky retirement, well done to the remaining crew!

+1
After starting the race as a neutral, I was very chuffed to see the Audi win, and the Corvettes take a win in Pro and Am class. Lotterer's last stint was a proper drive

I don't particuarly like them, but that last remaining car and the crew did bloody well.
Go Corvette :D

It was an insane crash, never seen anything like it in 8 trips there, we were stood right in front of it when it happened, roughly in the circled area. we saw mcnish get out and the ambulance was parked in front of us when he got in and waved to the crowd.

Aye, we were having lunch in the restaurant and saw McNishes on TV, the whole place went silent until he jumped out.
Saw his car coming back to Parc Ferme too:

Rockenfeller we didnt see any of, and it kinds killed the night bit of the race, there was a Safety car for 2 hours from about 1am which isnt ideal when you are trying to stay awake :D

We were scrambling through the undergrowth at that point :wack:

No, Rockenfeller's crash rather than McN's - late evening by that point :)

That was a scary crash to watch. The sickening thud, the silent crowd then getting showered with carbon fibre and other Audi parts was one of the endearing images that will stick with me this year.
I was at the back of the crowd and still had bits of car hitting me, so god knows what would have happened if it had cleared the tyre wall
Some great action and racing this year. Roll on 2012 :D
Was a terrible terrible crash. Was standing with Maccy so didn't actually see the impact.
When we all walked onto the track I found a nice bit of left over car in a gravel trap and there's a possibility it's part of McNish's Audi.
Pics!
Not back home til tomorrow night so will take some photo's then. It looks like it's part of the front splitter as there is a plywood skid plate on the bottom of it. It's pretty light and bloody strong.
I wonder how much it could be worth :)

I was listening to the radio in the tent for a few hours when I woke up on Sunday. Some of the driving by Davidson and Marc Gene was really out of order, the commentator was going mental!

Take a look at this bit from slightly earlier on. I was asleep so missed it, but this is where they actually take the lead! :)

A few of us saw this happen in 2009. Just off the Dunlop, going into the esses. We were actually on the opposite side of the track to this footage and the car landed literally about 50 ft from us. A wheel landed right in front of us. It was about 4.30am and although there was a camera there right in front of us, the operator had just left so it was on remote. This is the ONLY footage we've found, even on the highlights from that year.
