last night on the drink, one of my mates came up with a funny theory.

blood is really blue, cos look at the colour of yours veins, and when it is exposed to oxygen it turns red

his main thing to back this up was obviously the colour of your veins and that no one has ever seen blood without it being exposed or open from the body???

i said he was talking shoyte, but????

i mean, how do you know the fridge light is off when the door is shut, or that toys really do get up and walk around when no one is there???

Unoxygenated blood is blue-er than oxygenated blood, which is quite red...

It's not 'blue' so to speak, more of a bluey red.

Deoxygenated blood is the colour you see in your veins.

if you blushed you would go blue ?????

Its not that blue its the veins that are blue. Both oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood are red - just oxyhaemoglobin is redder:thumbs:

When your blood is oxidised it turns red.... probably a bit like an S13 bootlid ;) :p

Then it goes through your body, and ends up back at the lungs, knackered, without any oxidisation and blue... probably a bit like an S14 drivers slippers ;) :p

Blood is naturally a dark reddish-purple-blue. When it is exposed to Oxygen in a certain manner it turns to a very bright red as the haemoglobin turns to oxyhaemoglobin. (This is your classic blood red colour).

It goes even worse a colour when exposed to Carbon Monoxide (this forms carboxyhaemoglobin and genrally means you are dying!!).

Martin was averagely correct with the veins theory, although they are not blue they are translucent in a way which lets more blue colouring through than red!!

Briantree - so what colour is a stained glass window with blue staining on it. - Its translucent in a way that lets more blur through:p

And to answer the first question there are 2 answers:
1. there is no way of knowing. You do not even know if your senses are telling the truth - you could be in the matrix etc.
2. Techniques like MRI etc tell you what something is like with out opening it.

Those that actually think blood is blue - STOP IT you're getting carried away and missing some important observations. Think BLOOD TEST! The syringe is a vacum, so the blood cannot get oxidised. Its dark red.

No, what I mean is that the material of the vein blocks more red light than it does blue light!! And yeahm, a stained glass window (a blue one) lets more blue light through than any other colour so appears blue!!

Everyone - 99% OF OBJECTS & MATTER IS ACTUALLY COLOURLESS!! IT'S JUST THAT THEY REFLECT LIGHT IN A CERTAIN WAY AS TO APPEAR TO HAVE COLOUR!!!

Ok, Physics/Chemistry lesson over!! :p

ANYWAY - Blood aint blue!!

well, the light does go off, i just emptied all the stuff out of the fridge, climbed in and shut the door.

its a real fvcker trying to push the door open from the inside tho... almost fainted thru lack of oxygen! THEY DONT TELL YOU THIS IN THE MANUAL!!!
