West Country Camping Chaos!

Friday evening, 24th June. *And Sat 25th June if you intend staying on an additional night.*

For the West Country June event, we thought why not go for something thats cheap for everyone, takes advantage of the great weather usually experienced in June, and involves a little drive out in the cars.

Plus plenty of booze and an SXOC BBQ, which many of you will know are legendary.:sxoc:

So here's the plan...

On the Friday, after work, drive to a site (which permits largish groups and fires), pitch up before dark, crank on a fire and BBQ and get pissed. Crash out at first light, then after a wonderful mornings sleep in a tent, get up, pack up and piss off home.

This will allow you the rest of the Saturday and Sunday as a full weekend to then do as you please. Those that are feeling particularly hardcore or have more time available can stay on for the Saturday night too.

Cornwall has offered to organise the catering for the event. I am in the process of provisionally booking a camp site so get yer names down. I need numbers asap so I can go ahead and book the site! Cost £10 per night

It is likely the campsite can reserve a pitch exclusively for us if we have the numbers.

It is looking highly likely that we will almost exclusively be given the main pitch area close to the facilities. However anyone not staying on and paying for an extra night will need to be off the campsite by 12 midday on the Saturday.

As we have commited to this and paid to reserve this for the club we now need to take payments:cry: but £10 for a great and probably quite hilarious evening out, food included, is a bargain.:sxoc:

LOL!

I did see one campsite called "Hedgehog Corner"! I'm sure there would be plenty to eat there!!!

Am currently looking at campsites, trying to find somewhere suitable. Have found one near Exeter that'll allow fires and is £10 for the night, seems the best on this list so far.

Bristol Blue

I've just spoken to a Site that sounds ideal... (Details to follow)

The best date on offer at the moment is 24th (and possibly the 25th if you intend to stay on an extra night).

So the date is set!! - Check your diaries and note it down! - Friday 24th June.

Campsite is 10-15 minutes drive from Junction 26 on the M5. (Just past Taunton)

Prices are likely to work out at around £10 per head.

There are also the options of fixed caravans for anyone who doesn't own a tent. They are available for £50 per night and can sleep 4-6 people. Spilt between 4 = £12.50 so also very reasonable.

If I can get a good idea of numbers early I may be able to arrange a group booking. In addition the club should be able to provide the food for it's members using the West Country budget and Ryan's catering skills.:D

I really need to get numbers together so, Names please!:sxoc::D

Still not sure. We were planning an excursion on the Saturday but haven't decided if we'll stay the extra night back at the campsite. Will probably decide when we're there.

Yay! Of course I should have known you'd be there 'whatever' the weather. Though forecast suggests it's going to be good.

:D

I can now publish the menu!

Though this is still subject to last minute preparations. And Conrwalls ability to get hold of the necessary ingredients and items, whilst being rushed off his feet at work next week.

Meals
Jacket Potatoes and Chicken Curry. - Main evening meal
Cheese burgers, 1 each. - Late evening snack
Bacon Sarnies. - Saturday morning breakfast
Sweet and Savoury selection - For nibbling

Drinks
Quantity of Cider
A-load-a Largers
Cheap Bottle of Wine
Cartons of Orange Juice (Saturday morning hangover thirst quenchers)
A few soft drinks, Coke & Lemonade.

However please do still bring drinks of your own preference. We will be limited to how many drinks we can indeed get with the budget once food has been bought. - And drinks for 15 is a lot!

As you said, food will be dependant on time, cost and ingredients  I finish work in Hook at 5pm, have to fight rush hour traffic to get home to Frome sort some siht out and then down to Exeter. Minimum of three hours driving and 6 hours sorting myself out :wack: Will try and get the food sorted on Thursday evening if I can  and confirm what I have got.

You will need your own drinks, I will only some some to share with what's left in the budget

what time are most people turning up and whats the situation with getting in on the entrance to the park as we have all paid here? does reception have all our car reg numbers?

I have already paid the campsite, so they should let us in.

However there are more on the list than I have actually paid for so the camp site will need some more money to cover everyone. I'll sort this out with them when I get there.

It is the club that is owed money, so as Ryan says the more people who pay up the better the budget for food and drinks.

Only 4 people have paid so far. I am really hoping people aren't quietly intending to pay on the day. (Exceptions excluded).:smash:

But yeah, really looking forward to it.:D

Just a reminder to bring whatever drinks you fancy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excellent a gazebo! we can all sit in the dry then! Like you say hopefully won't be too bad,got my mega comfy recliner with me ha ha

I was going to offer to buy some burgers or sausages,I dont mind...my booze is chilling nicely as we speak.

We still have my Texan BBQ Beans and Yanky Tatty Salad, finish doing the potatoe salad in the morning so it keeps fresher and cooked the barby beans this afternoon so they can emulgamate and taste even better tomorrow ( I hope ! lol )

I actually have shed loads of meat in my freezer so can bring it anyway for Cornwall to use for everyone if he wants?

Morrisons Best Butchers Pork Sausages and also their Lincolnshire Sausages -really lean none of that cheap grisly shit, damn fine in fact ha ha! and some decent chicken breasts which are cracking barbequed with a honey or sticky hickory bbq glaze....hell I want to join in the cooking at this rate.....don't want to interfere with Cornwalls plans though?

I'm acting like mother hen already ha ha.. :smash::smitten:

I shall bring us all some crisps, nibbles and chocolate/sweets for everyone too

Done my checks on the car,am whipping up to Callestick Cider Farm-very handily just 5 mins up the road from me to get some more Cider and maybe Mead too as I do love it ha ha,I'll probably be at the campsite sometime between 12 and 3pm tomorrow, gives me a few hours to sort my tent out ha ha.......and have a sneeky couple ha ha:sxoc:

P.S anyone reading this before morning-if you want any cider or mead and don't live near a local supplier then I'm more than happy to get some supplies for you, let me know tonight or early morning before i go to the farm- about 10 ish in the morning, they do Apple and Pear Rattler Bottled, loads of flavour Meads and their Ciders of course, you'll have to pay me back for that though guys as can't afford all that ha ha....when I win the lottery...i just buy us the farm ha haha.. :)

Do they do Rattler by the crate? If so do you know how much it is?

I'm off to bookers first mate as Im sure i bought Rattlers there before, if i recall 24/25 bottles in a tray(ya know sealed in plastic, not sure if they are the standard size or 500ml size, the 500 ml size at Callestick Cider Farm are £2.28 a bottle in apple, pear or berry(dearer than Morrisons at about £2.10 a bottle, i'm sure Bookers are cheaper still so I'd have to check first thing in the morning, also dont know if Bookers do the Pear Rattler or just the apple?

Just to clarify-my mistake...Callestick do not stock Mead!! ( sacrilage!) my mistake as I thought they did! but they do glass bottles of fruit wines Elderflower,Summer fruits, and Strawberry all %'s, when i was there they also did a Honey Wine but its not listed on the site

all here if you want a peep! they do the great 'splitter of all headaches' though...!" Scrumpy!! for those hardcore apple fiends!!

http://www.thecornishcyderfarm.co.uk/index.html

Remember Bookers do all beers, lagers wines, bitters aswell and alot cheaper,I can fit it in the car if anyone wants a box or crate of something but i will need your pennies in return ...I'm genourous..just not rich lol

zedsterS13
24-06-2011, 02:05

Sorry it's taken me over a week to get on this thread properly - bit a bit of a sh1t week, all told.

But looking back before all that, this event was uber awesome.
I was shAttered on the way, but after meeting some fellow West Country SXers (lots of new ones too) and a couple of ciders, I had a fab time - not drank that much in a very long time!

Shame it rained, but it didn't stop us one bit.

Zo - you bloody LEGEND. That food - amazing, and I'm soo pleased you made it and had a good time for your first SXOC overnighter  Fab to meet up again and hope to do so again soo :) :smitten:

Ryan & Matt- Thank you so much for bringing the van, gazeebo, pit and the food bit and the coojking on site and the before prep work. Delish as always - couldn't have done it without cha  :notworthy
And of course, who can forget you bringing lovely little Ebby :smitten: I need a doggy hug right now too, the little love.

Rory - for your help with kicking off the brekkie on Sat AM (& Chan too)

Deacs - for the fab deisel-powered tuneage - fan-bloody-tastic, as always

and lastly, my beloved babe, Steve (Bristol Blue). You did such a good job in finding that place, the liaison with the SXOC committee & the campsite, sorting who's coming, who's paid and the rest.
Well done babe -a truly great little area event and one that looks possible to become a yearly feature in our calendar  :smitten: *mwah*
