View Full Version : Favourite car manufacturer from this list:
Yeah I know Toyota, Nissan, blah blah make some nice cars. But out of this list which do you prefer?
1. Ford
2. Vauxhall
3. VW
4. Peugeot
5. Renault
Any reason for you're choice?
Dunc.
Tried to do a poll but cocked it up :o

Mind you I also just sold my 1986 mk2 golf gti for my nissan and it was a well built car and it went like a little rocket and had 156k on it.I even got more than I paid for it when I sold it.:)
You may laugh, but its easily done..... isn't it???? Ripper, back me up here :(
Difficult choice!!!!
Have to say Renault... dont like there cars but there realy takling saftey for relativly cheap cars, which will hopfully encourage other manufactures to do the same....
vw's got to be the best one there surely?

VW they've made some good solid cars.

VW. German build quality. Not french (don't like french cars) and not a cheap make i.e. ford and vauxhall.
Dan,
Ford. Their everyday cars are utter cack but they have brought us some amazing rally machinery, the 60's Mustang and the GT40 :notworthy
VW with no doubt about it.
Probably one of the best car manufacturers ever.
With Jeff on this, GT40:notworthy
I don't like VW, where's the RWD models? Pug and renault suffer from the same symtoms.
I voted Ford BTW because of cossies and RS200.
Has to be Ford ........... I wanna Mustang :)
Supose if the question was ... Which manufacturer do you rate to build a middle of the road, dull everyday car yawn ........ then VW

Small pugs are nice (had two 205GTI's) with ace handling, but the bigger they get the blander the cars IMO.
You can vote now BTW, my poll disaster has been repaired by the powers above!
Dunc
I dont like VW's either, over-engineered, over priced, overweight.... errr, over priced scrabble wagons...

The new golf Gti does 0-60 in 10.5s (EVO), WFT????
I disagree with all of you over VW.
If you want boring, then go to the Ford marque. OK, so you've had cossies etc, but the VW brand has had the Sciroccos, mad golfs, Karmann Ghias (if you want to go back that far) plus the build quality is far superior to Ford.
If you had asked "Who makes some of the best historical and aspirational cars?" the answer would be Ford with the GT40 (old and new), the Mustang, the Tbird etc.

Ford.
They pay my wages....

Not to my taste I'm afriad. But admittedly in the past VW have done some things right (almost) with corrado etc, but its been a long time since they've made a driver's car IMO.
Poor old ford try they're best and some people even claim the Focus's handle great, I can't comment on this though!

Hmmm...
'S gotta be Ford, hasn't it really...

Mind you, Peugeot did make one very decent car:

But I'm not rating them just for that, VW are well built but very bland, and I had a Golf that broke down constantly. Then Renault and Vauxhall in no particular order, one's French and the other one's, well, crap :D
Would have to be VW because of the build and because they build the only car out of this bunch of manufacturers that I'd consider: the Pheaton.
Don't laugh, it may be an expensive lardy barge, but in 12 months time low mileage examples will be fetching next to nothing on the 2nd hand market and could well make a good buy:D
Apart from that wouldn't touch any of them with a bargpole because of the FWD.

Ahem, Ford made loads of RWD cars, including the one I put a piccy of up above :)

VW are part of VAG so for the audi quattro I vote VW :D

Yes, but Ford also own Aston Martin.... So a vote for Ford is a vote for the V12 Vanquish ;)

True, but they don't any more :(
the new GT is rwd:thumbs:

And VW own Lamborghini. So a vote for Veedub is a vote for the Murcialago :D
I`m gonna say Renault - the current Clios are v.good scrabblers and the V6 is a hoot.
I also quite liked the old Renault Alpines
Ford and Vauxhall are just wrong

Ford for me, you can't knock the company that has made the...
GT40
RS200 :notworthy:
RS500
Rally winning Mk1 & 2 Escorts
and they made turbo cars affordable and they have a massive amount of aftermarket support.
Granted they have made some poo but there competition cars kick arse, VW suck (especially those shitty aircooled Beetles and Campers  )

I'd like one of them. Think I'd have so stick some Opel badges on though :)

Ford started the entire "performance saloon" section of cars. If it wasn't for ford, I doubt we would have lancer Evo's and scooby imprezas.
They are good for making some interesting machinery that most people could just about afford if they cut down on other things.

Least it doesnt say Vauxhall anywhere on the car!!
Just the badges.
Anyways, going on the above ideas, surely a vote for Renault is a vote for a 200sx.....
/runs away rapidly.....

You say that like its a bad thing? :p
They share a chassis, much like so many cars do nowadays.
However its got a decent turbocharged 2.0l engine and less likely to spontaneously fvckup, should also become a collectable car since only a limited number are produced.
Only a poseur/fool would buy the lotus and that would be on looks/badge and not on driving merits. ;)
Has nobody mentioned the lotus carlton yet?

Exactly!
It's an Elise with better looks, more equipment, and a turbo! :)
And JB, PMSL, I'd definitely stick Opel badges on if I bought one too :D
Whats this non-sense about sticking opel badges on? Therefor making it a foreign vauxhall, massive improvement there then
(Just being akward :D )

Oh yes. Got to agree there. For an off the shelf car, I don't think you get much better in its class IMHO
VW build quality went through a bad spell. Suspension falling to bits, turbo probs on the tfdi's, afm packing up etc.
Vauxhall, I actually like the new Astra and the Vectra is quite good to drive, reliabilty wise......... thank god people buy them to keep me in a job :D
Peugeot I've never really been keen on, but I do like the 406
Renaults are usually very comfy cars to drive but they come away with some wacky designs! Take the Val whats its name. I think they only sold about 1 in Scotland!
Where's Fiat?????? They might have got my vote. The Barchetta, nice, pity it was only LHD :( Coupe turbo. Nice, fast good handling car (but only FWD!!!!)
I'll vote Ford due to some nice fast cars and their latest mondeo, focus etc

Mighty, the number plate on that one is a bit unfortunate however!
