comes up.
Its also my home page.
this occured after i was sent a dodgy link which didnt work by a mate.
Ive change the home page several times to the blueyonder one it should be, and it stays my home page for that session, but if i power down the pc, then come back and power up and log on, its my homw page again.
done a search of the pc, and no viruses, and also nout with ufind all.

Help, cos its really pissin me off.

If changing the Home Page on Internet Explorer doesn't work then you may have to run a "regedit" and remove all occurences of "youfindall"

Or use a browsers that aint IE so dodgy sites cant change your homepage... or read/edit/delete all ye files :p

Regedit is the best way to fix it, this will prevent all future occurances, until you access "one of those pages" again :D

Be careful in regedit though...

you prolly had a message popup saying do you want to set this as your homepage and you just clicked YES without reading it :p

If you can't click Tools --> Internet Options and then change your homepage you'll need to do a bit of registry diving. Post on here if you can't do it the easy way first :)

u misunderstand.
i do the tools, inter op, home page, apply.
this gives me what home page i put it to for the duration the pc is on, but if i re-boot the pc, then it comes back to u find all.

im thick, but not thick enough to not know how to change my home page ffs.

so wast this regedit thing then?

You might have a program that keeps coming up in the background and changing your homepage when you go into Windows.

If you have Windows 98, you can go Start>run and type in 'msconfig', and then go to the startup tab, and just remove anything that looks unnessecary. This will mean you have less crap running in the background as well :)

Much safer than p*ssing about with the registry if it works :)

Scott_Drayton

Go to start, run, type in REGEDIT- this allows you to Edit the Registry, where all the main settings for the PC are kept.

In here you will find lots on menus down the left hand side...

Pete beat me to it......... :D

Instead of Adaware , have a look at Spybot - Search & Destroy

from http://security.kolla.de/

its very good ad getting rid of adware/spyware annoying type stuff :)

Kev
16-07-2003, 14:19
too late adaware is now running
wtf do i do if/when it finds sommat?

Or to put it another way, may some of the stuff it finds be ok, and therefor i shouldnt just delete anything it finds?

Kev
16-07-2003, 14:20
its found 83 new objects....... wtf does that mean?

wow possible browser hijack attemp????????????

Moby-Dick
16-07-2003, 14:26
a browser hijack is when it attempts to change your homepage etc..

Kev
16-07-2003, 14:32
ahh cool, i just deleted all 83 of them, looked like bout half of them were them browsere hijacks.
probs the last week where ive had to keep changing them.

so this mean i can surf loads of porn and then just run this adaware stuff and it will get rid of all the crap?

If so, then cath can u send me all those site u frequent.

 at my post or at whole thread?

My post - Ant spends 99% of his days surfing the net. If he doesnt look at porn for 60% of that, he isnt male.

At the whole thread - well, i dunno.......

ROFL

Just saw this thread after Cath told me about it. She has the answer I gave her Kev, but basically I said use msconfig (start menu>run>msconfig then click the startup tab and uncheck the unwanted entries) as it's safer for n00bs than diving into the registry

Something is f00king with ure settings at startup, this will stop it.

P.S. Well seeing you were on a pr0n site Kev ;)

These dodgy progs don't install themselves from just any old site :wack:

Cool it's sorted. I had a bloody anoying popup thing from gator once and no mater how many times I removed it rom the registry and delted it from the running proccesses It still came back. adaware sorted it out straight away. keep checking for updates every now and then though.

Kev
16-07-2003, 16:32
yeah HUUUUGE thanks to Nathan all is sorted.
And its funny should mention gator, cos thta was one of them also.
Just re-booted pc and the homepage is cool.
woo hooo
cheers boys and cath:thumbs:

Brian would have been ok if it had been a decent porn site but the link i was sent didnt even seem to work, and my mate says he didnt send it... one of them virusy type things maybe..... i dunno

Kev

just dug this up cos im having a kinda similar prob..........

now the only sites i visit right now are msn hotmail and sxoc.
and for the last few weeks i keep getting "u findall.net"
its doin my box in.
My sis sometimes uses the pc, and searches things like amazon books, ebay, that sort of thing.
but she says she hasnt used it last few days and i still get this thing on load up.
everytime i run adaware it picks up the css hi jack, and i delete it all, and all cookies and files and history, but give it a day and its back.

just ran the msconfig thing.
only things i could see that i dont want (i think) are a "real" update thing (real player) and a quicktime thing also.
but theres a funny thing running from the common files called "keen value", since ive never heard of this ive just unchecked the run box.

if someone can confirm its ok to do away with this, ill delete all the stuff related to it.

in internet explorer go to Tools > internet options. check yer security settings. you might wanna do that too kev. make sure it isnt letting any old shite in.

If you are not using a decent virus checker try PC-Cillin, it has a built in firewall and you wopuld have your eyes opened about how many scans and attempts to access your machine it blocks.

I get about 1 attempt to scan or access my machine every 15 seconds.

Kev
13-10-2003, 03:54
guys this is still a problem.
adaware picks up the ccs hi jack and deletes it.

but it seems to be dependant on the clock, ie. for every new day its back, like after 12 midnight if i run adaware its there.

someone surely knows how to deal with this?

I may just format the bitch!!

beavertron

Get spybot and try that as well as adaware.

Grim
13-10-2003, 08:43
yep, spybot or adware

or

type the page you get refered to into google or yahoo. chances are they will give you loads of info on which programs are running in the backgroung to disturb your browsing pleasure.

it's really annoying when you click on "favorites" and find a load of porn site or online gambling sites you never heard of, or when yu close down and there are loads of new links on the desktop.

if you want a larf, try fidling with IE security levels. i find that anything other than hardcore porn/violent death/swearing as the setting means you get told you can't look at anything. wat a waste.

just as a point of interest

if you go into c:\program files\internet explorer see if there is a folder there called signup

this is often auto loaded by said dodgy sites and lowly ISP's for the sake of browser branding and enforcing homepages/favourites etc etc

just delete the folder called signup, now change your home page

should also sort it

Just run adaware for the first time

Found 91 dodgy items

Removed all internet history (except SXOC cookie obviously)

Re ran adaware and got 81 items

Found the "cookies" folder and deleted all except the index (didn't know the cookie folder existed !)

Re ran adaware and now have 60 items.

They all seem to be "gator" data miners and "coulomb" diallers.

Is it safe to let adaware remove these?
Some are .dll files.

Papa Lazarou
09-11-2003, 15:10
Yes delete them especially the dialler programs!!

Jon
09-11-2003, 17:13
Cheers Papa.

I know that diallers cannot be good but don't know what the gator stuff might do.

Here goes anyway!
