As some may know I recently sold my SX :( anyway I couldn't bare to drive a standard shity car so i went out and bought an AE86 :) . Now ive drove quite a few as ive been searching for the one that was right for me since i posted this thread
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=468071
I found this one on DW a while back made an offer and it was to my surprise accepted :D

- 6 months tax
- 7 months mot
- 1.6 16v 4age lump
- HKS cams
- Mikuni 48mm carbs
- TRD fuel pump and FPR
- Full exhaust system
- Jasma manifold
- HKS oil cooler
- HKS oil filter relocation kit
- TRD 2-way diff
- TRD clutch
- TRD Short shift kit
- TRD front coilovers
- KYB rear shocks and TRD springs
- Cusco adjustable arms
- Cusco upper and lower braces
- Nearly all the other suspension bits uprated aswell!
- Full rollcage (dash dodger)
- K Sport bucket seat
- OMP wheel with snap-off boss
- Stripped out rear
- TRD oil and water temp gauges
- Fly off handbrake button
- Brembo pads and disks

- J-blood front bumper , Free run sides and rear

As Si said in the above thread don't discount the 4AGE engine wich i sort of already had but ive now fallen in love with it :smitten: lol :D . The sound and the way this car delivers power all the way up to 9k is awesome and never fails to put a smile on my face.
So plans for the future are to get it all serviced up to make sure its running as good as it can be, new wheels are on the cards as im not really a fan of the rotas and some coilovers, wich type I don't know but its out of DW CS2's , Blitz or AVO  .

Wheels wise i was going to go with some minilites or similer for the time being but id really like to get some nice Miesters or Equip 03's on there once my overtime cash drops in the bank :D

They had been growing on me for a while so i just bit the bullet and got one haha so happy i did now great little car :D

Know what you mean - I'd love something like this as a daily beater. Shame (for us) that they're a cult car now and the value is so high. I still keep my eye out for a cheap one though...

This one wasn't to pricey really  got a decent deal on it in the end :D they are getting cheaper but the cheaper ones are usually rust riddled and need a lot of work doing :(

Its only cool to people who like JDM cars every one else thinks like my girlfriend in that its just a 25 year old noisy shit heap :wack:

yeah they are great fun little cars , the sx was a lot faster than this but the 86 handles so nice I havn't really missed the speed to be honest. I also love the retroness of it all haha even down to the little details in the interior like the aircon switch's haha .

Thats the thing though. Its not as fast but it feels like your constantly at the limit. I've been in my mates and it felt like we were flying down the nice back road. A few months later I was trailing him in my sx and felt it was taking no effort. They are just so much fun. Oh and they sound the tits too. Wish my sr sounded that nice lol
Does yours have the warning ringer and light on the dash saying "speed"?

It's like the go kart effect because its so much smaller than the sx and the engine is so rev happy it feels and sounds like I'm doing 150 mph down a back road when I'm really only doing 60 haha keeps me smiling :D
I've not seen the light or heard the buzzer but then my car has had a lot of stuff stripped out of it

Thanks  and yes it is a lot of fun :D

Fitment wise I don't want to go silly wide on the wheels as that would ruin part of what makes these cars so great so from my measurements 15x8 et 0 on the front and 15x8.5 et -10 on the rear would be perfect although I might have to adjust that a bit but if I get wheels some where around those sizes i will be happy :D

Do not put mini lites or super lites on a ae86 ever.....unless you selling it to someone from Ireland (I should know I'm from Ireland)
You got to love the noise off these engines I'm running itbs on my one

The ninja's on the back? Keep them!! Reminder of where the car came from...

Or if you must get rid, nick the missus' hairdryer and heat them first. Then carefully peel them off being careful not to scratch the paint. You could buff it up again afterward if you do leave scratches though.

Love it. I have a levin bz-r with a 4age in it and the engines are insane :-). I still need to bring on th trumpets and get a decat but Re-doing the brakes and superstrut first. Love the ae86's :-)

Purchased this to fit when i get home , the OMP wheel in there at the moment is nice but i think the classic style of the Nardi will suit the Old school interior of the rolla more

awesome car. jev sold it to some dude down in honiton, i guess he got bored quickly lol

it looks soo much better without the gay graphics, i remember it when it was at jdm graphics before the stickers went on, it was lush!!

the engine blew up when jev bought it but they put a new motor in it and made the exhaust quieter, that all i know about it lol

Yeah i bought it of the lad in Honiton , its hard to see how you can get bored of such a mad ass little hooligan car lol :D

Thats pretty much how i want to get it back to maybe a new rear bumper , get the front one sprayed and then just tidy it up here and there

Ive seen the pictures of when the bottom end blew wich show a rather large hole in it, 10k on a standard bottom end is bound to do that though  but the new motor feels pretty strong to me and i have a few little plans for it my self  . Think the exhaust is a mongoose or something along those lines but id like to get something like a Buddy club spec 2 for it for when i feel even more antisocial haha :D

Well havn't updated this thread for a little while and after talks of 20V motors and S2K motors , having talked to a lot of people who have ran various conversions the over all feeling is that the 16V is the better motor to run high RPM's and good BHP on without ruining the character of the car (makes sense really its the engine the cars designed for :wack:) . Even though im happy with the 16V and 154bhp feels a lot in the little light car i want more so ive decided to have it rebuilt with the following specs.

AWT polish and ported head with arrow shim under bucket kit with cat cam springs
Cat cams with spec: duration 278 / 266°, duration 254 / 242° Max lift 11.80 / 11.05mm lift at TDC 3.65 / 2.90mm
Adjustable cam pulley's
Toda high comp pistons with 0.2 overbore and a 11.3:1 ratio
Brian Crower forged Rods
0.8mm TRD Headgasket
ARP head stud and nut kit
HKS timing belt
ACL race bearings
New toyota pumps
my Mikuni 48mm Carbs on the Ported and polished HKS inlet manifold

Went down to Damo's the other day and picked up the head and cams

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll215/lewyg/IMAG0181.jpg

Just waiting on the pistons and rods showing up from MCN sport now and then theres the little bits and bobs to take care of then the rebuild can begin. Going by other similer spec motors anything between 180 and 200bhp is achievable with this sort of set up and that sort of power will be nice in this little car :D

Well havn't updated this in a while , cars been sat about not doing nothing sort of lost interest due to some problems at home and what not but now i have a new found enthusiasm for the car so i thought id post up some pics and let you guys know whats going on over the winter.

So the damage report is as expected the Valves on the intake side are all bent , smashed the lifters , theres damage to the cams wich looks like it was done through oil starvation wich may have caused all this in the first place (the engine has turned out to have a lot of silicone in it :wack: ) and the pistons are obviously not in the best shape either.

Well the plan for the winter is to get all the parts ive aquired and some im yet to get into the car and have it up and running for sometime early next year , erm hopefully :wack: and then get it to some drift/track days and have fun again :D

Oooohh and the above comments on Exhausts I gave the Buddyclub spec II a miss but i purchased a Kakimoto exhaust of a member on DW.

http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=75026&stc=1&d=1323350734

I have heard nothing but good reviews for these exhausts , it will be around 96db but with the induction noise being easily louder than that on my car im sure it will be ok just can't wait to hear some sound from it :wack: :D

Some serious kit there.

48mm carbs?! I thought my 45 were a bit too big and they were choked down to like 35mm. It must sound awesome, Kind of miss the sound and smell of carbs.

Also I'm in much the same position engine-wise 20v, f20c, SR20 or origonal 16v. I think my current 16v is on it's last legs as it has bad compression and quite alot of blue smoke on start, Trying to some up the costs wether it's worth paying to get the 16v rebuilt or just buy a 20v and get more power out the box and and scrap the 16v. (Not litrally it has HKS cams :p)

Cheers dude

Yeah the Mikuni carbs have been fine the car always ran well up until it went bang lol . Its the most awesome sound in the world hearing the open carbs howl as it hit 8k :smitten: , I may change back to fuel injection at a later date as im using megajolt and coilpacks to run it all so would be easy to switch back i guess.

F20c and SR20 are wierd ones for me , I was convinced they would be better options but well part of the charm of these cars is the 4age hence why im rebuilding the 16v motor , 20v conversion would be cheaper for sure and 160bhp and ITB's out of the box but when you start to want more your just going to end up spending the same amount as you would on a 16v so its a tuff call to make.

New ignition system so i can run Zetec coil pack and get rid of the dirty un reliable dizzy and single coil. Will allow for finer tuning of the ignition timing wich should make the car drive a lot crisper ,smoother , also i can plug water temp / oil temp sensors back in and be that little more reliable (hopefully). We just got to get it all wired in now  lol :D
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll215/lewyg/IMG-20120428-00143-1.jpg
And the block is back from having the machine work done so it and the the sump pan have been treated to a lick of paint.

also found myself a cheap bride seat to stick in because im a JDM whore and the K-sport although comfortable doesn't satisfiy me at all lol

Awesome engines mate and so underated (even by me until id experianced a nicely tuned one) , I really don't understand why people swap them as they are litterally the heart of the car and just add so much to its character. Haha i can see how people can get confused mine is much louder and throatyer than the SX if that makes sense certainly turns heads anyway even if there just thinking why the hell is that old XR3i making so much noise lol :D
