BERLIN (Reuters) - A U.S. lecturer has been riding a German rollercoaster for more than four days -- sleeping, eating and going to the toilet at speeds of up to 120 km/h (75 mph) in a bid to set a new world record.
Richard Rodriguez, 42, has smashed the latest record set by two Japanese who stayed on a rollercoaster for 35-1/2 hours but has shown no sign of giving up yet, the German amusement park said on Monday.
"He hasn't thrown up yet," said Ulrike Endres from Holiday Park in southwestern Germany. "...The only thing he's really complained about is a slight sunburn."
Rodriguez is only allowed a 15-minute break every eight hours. At night, he climbs out of the 62-metre (203-ft) high "Expedition GeForce" and boards a lower "corkscrew" rider, trying to sleep while plunging headfirst every few seconds. He has a special toilet inside his rollercoaster wagon.
