View Full Version : Annoying wiper squeak?
Am I alone in having really annoying squeaking front wipers? It's not the blades cause I changed them last week. Anyone have an idea?

I had this happen on my 200, it really got on my tits, what you have to do is spray the bottom of the wiper arm with WD-40, lift off the cap to show the retaining nut and spray that for a while.
It nearly drove me f*ucking insane http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/mad.gif

This is a standard problem, the fix is usually a new wiper-arm bearing, I went through months of agony until Simon Norris said "its the bearing"
price is about £70 - result is bliss !
same.
Although my cure is to pretend I like it. Dont let the wipers know that they are winning.
all 3 of my S13s have done this - WD40 on the bushes seems to sort it for ages...

I wouldn't use wd40 , but rather white grease, from a spray can. took of the cover from over the wiper spindle and armes and gave a good shot over all the moving parts on the spindles and rods - perfect and it sticks like glue.

to briefly go off topic (just for a sec)
Talking of spraying WD40 onto bushes, I inadvertantly doused the shrubbery on my garden in magnatec when i drove over the tub. It kills them.

Cheers guys. Mines been doing ths for a year now!
I know its a worn centre bearing. Gonna try some railway point lube on it - its waterproof and sticks like glue!

LOL at chimp.
Funny how something like squeeky wipes is on the board, and how many of us have the problem - mine does the same.
Gonna try the WD-40 method tonight, and use some magnetec to clear the drive of weeds http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Mine did it as well, drives you furkin crazy, I thought it was the wiper arm that wasn't positioned right so I bent it away from the screen a bit and that sorted it. Don't know how long for though.
Miss Chimp reckons she hates the car, my accident prone ways do keep her amused though. Last week she was nursing the mother of all blisters on my left hand after my classic attempt to gauge how long it takes for a turbo to cool down. Clearly longer than I thought. She's mint though, quite patient and actually likes some cars. She doesnt drive mine though, her siecento looks like someones been playing golf against the side of it. Bins/cars/trolleys keep jumping out at her in car parks apparently.
As for the wipers, its pee-ing it down this morning, and they didnt seem to do it much. I must admit its more technical than i thought. I assumed it was the washer additive in the bottle making them squeek, I was quite happy in my ignorance.

Anybody had the white plastic bushes worn so that the left hand wiper doesnt touch the screen at one end. I had this and ended up reconstittuting the bush with body filler. Now works perfectly. I suspect the cost of a new bush would have been rediculous!! Its lasted about 6 months so far.....and a lot of rain!!!

I'm glad that it's not just my car that squeaks! I drive the car for an hour and a half home from work, and last week I got caught in that thunderstorm and it nearly drove me mad... Kinda like when the exhaust went on my Cavalier just after the manifold and I drove it all the way home like that. Nearly went deaf!
BTW, Chimp you are funny. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I had this squeak since I got the car nearly a year ago, and then last week i took of the wiper arms to spray them black as they were peeling and looked crap, put em back on and they did not work, one of the bushes was gone and so was the pivot, so i got the pivot and linkages from nissan got them fitted and there is no squeak, so it cost 70 quid to get rid of squeak! well worth it for a bit of peace when u are driving in the rain!
Chimp - you're now in my bad books (you can start quaking anytime now).
I've just read your 'Magnatec in the shrubbery' comment and laughed in the face of somebody really important at work who was leaning over the monitor.
I'm deciding whether to go and apologise....
