View Full Version : Which turbo should I get?
I'll need a new turbo soon and just wondered what peoples opinions where. I don't want to go for a T3 as I can't afford the fitting kit and new turbo. So what should I go for? T25 hybrid, T28? Do I need 360 degree thrust bearings?
Any hints tip would be great - also wheres the cheapest place to get an uprated turbo? I'll be fitting it myself.
Cheers guys

Hi Jez,
Belive it or not its cheaper to go for a T3 if you do it yourself, I have a hybrid T25 and I wish I had gone for a T3 now, I think Ben Taylor posted a link to a site whitch sells an adapter plate for the CA18DET manifold its about £70 I think, plus you can pick up a T3 for £350 - 400 unlike a Hybrid T25 which cost me a shade over £600. The water/oil hoses for a T3 are available from Earls hoses/pipes (in Demon Tweeks) and they are more reliable than a T25 or T28

Oh right. Do you (or anyone) have the details of what fittings Ill need. I thought it would be a right hastle to fit - arent all the main ports (i.e. cold air inlet and outlet and exhaust in and out) different?
I'd be up for a T3 conversion definately - would really like to hear from anyone whos done a DIY. Dont really fancy paying NDs £400 for a fitting kit.
Where can I get a new / reconditioned T3 from?

Sounds like bull to me. Metros have much smaller engines and wouldnt need the flow rates a T3 is capable of.

Youre right, MG Metros had T3s.
But not all T3s are the same. They can have different A/R ratios.
Ive been told that the one your after is the Cossie item. The RST has different housings due to it being on a transverse engine.

I stand corrected. So what makes a T3 a T3? Is it just the casing?

I spoke to a guy at Universal Turbos who said that for £650 he could supply a hybrid turbo with the new roller bearing setup that will spin up faster and hold boost better than any T3 plus it will easily be reliable upto at least 34psi constant, if not more.
Maybe I could get some forged pistons, uprated injectors and fuel map and run 30psi, kick ass power methinks !!!

Hybrid T3/4 are hoooooj. A lot of big HP cossies run them. Not really a cheap bolt on go faster goody though http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/tongue.gif
At 34psi its more like a start at the bottom and work your way up rebuild!
