Reliant Robins.
Are they front or rear wheel drive?
They are RWD and proud of it.
Whoever thought they's be FWD. They've only got one front wheel ffs
I wonder how well they drift..... ;)

Indeed.... had many biker buds make wicked trikes outa those things.
some even on L plates and 16 :D :D
trikes are still cars therefore you need a car driving license to drive one, so you r mates, if true, were in breach of the law!
I was getting confused with the BOnd Bug, thats FF :D

INCORRECT.
You can drive a robin reliant at 16, and therefor also trikes.
I friend of mine was insured on a blooming quick trike one and still L plates. Most use the shell, slap in a nice new motorbike engine (600cc semi-sports) and off they go
tis the law....
You can drive a 3 wheel car on a full motorbiuke license. Hoever you cannot hold a full MB licence until you are 17. Ergo you cannot drive a 3 wheeler until you are 17.
Therefore it is you Pete who is INCORRECT.
Vez mate, I'm jolly impressed at your knowledge of 3 wheeled vehicles :D

WRONG AGAIN.
As I said earlier, he was on L plates at 16, which you'll find is the earliest you can apply for a license and drive 50cc peds and trikes.
You cannot apply for a FULL motorbike license until 17, but im not on about that here, unlike bikes your not restricted to engine size on a trike.
You can also drive tractors at 16 aswell, being around farmers my childhood I know that for fact too.
W H O G I V E S A D A M N F F S!!
Stop shouting.
I think you can drive a 3 wheeler at 16 if it has less than 50cc. (which wouldn't innclude a Robin Reliant?) E.g.:

How cool would you look driving this around at age 16 :wack:

Forget engine size on trikes, it doesnt apply.
50cc or 2000cc its doesnt matter.
some dude at 16 was in max power a few years back in a three wheeler supercharged 2litre tricke!!
his insurance was 3 grand though
I have to admit to being with JB about the trike thing...
I'm sure you can't trike over 50cc at 16, 17 yes...
Pete your correct.
I insure custom bikes ad trikes. The 16 year olds cant get on the bike till after their full test, but trikes are legal for 16 year olds if they have L plates showing. If they want to remove the L plates they need to pass their bike test.
insurance is wild though, most 16 year olds cant afford to buy or insure em anyway.... and wouldnt be seen dead in a robin!

Aren't trikes and Robins classed as "motorbike + side car"? If so then I believe you can drive at 16 but surely there would (or should) be some restriction on engine size?
Did you hear about the bloke who used a Robin as a getaway car after a robbery? Police had a right job catching him as they couldn't use a stinger as its classed unsafe on a 3 wheeler, they were chasing him ages at around 20mph!

Where dya work mate?
Your prolly one of our competitiors :D
I used to work at CIA insurance
Had a few people who used to work at Bennets who had trikes, the motorcycle owners club thing is HQ at CIA too, the chap on club insurance hotline for them had a few trikes, one was half a car, with the passengers covered by the half a roof of the old car :D
different type of bikers, trikers
Can you explain this then:

Check here:
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/vehicle_cat_desc.htm#3%20or%204%20wheeled%20light% 20vehicles
If you are insuring 16 year olds to drive trikes then I think you should think again....being in the insurance game I thought you'd know this
The only way you can drive these at 16: "currently getting Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate"
SPEEDY YOU ARE WRONG AGAIN
Im a closet three wheel fan and just love my mates cusons Bond Bug!! :D
we're not ganging up on you Pete, jsut uncovering some facts dude.
I'd ask your employers about this, ESP the DVLA componant of what we've found dude. Could get someone it serious sh1t...
Its up to the driver to assess whether hes been granted driving rights at 16, as insurers its not our problem theyre just not insured.
The laws HAVE changed recently though so maybe it is 17 now... still easiest way to get in a fast motor, specially as its not a bike and not a car

According to my (rather torn) liscence at 16 you can drive a trike with an unladen weight of no more than 410kg and not more than 50km/h. At 17 you can drive catagory "A" which is any motorbike with or without sidecar (trike), obviously CBT etc. permitting. This liscence is 10 years old by the way.
HTH.
But if they are not legally allowed to ride/drive then how can you give them insurance? Don't you ever ask for proof of age?
If not, which company do you work for :)

when i worked for CIA it was a case of gettign their age of 16 and thats it. more worried about the garage/immobilisers certificate. they'd naturally have to mail in a copy of their licenses.
That was a different department though, not quotes responsability

Well I'm not wrong anyway, just not completely right and neither are you which makes us equal as regards this.
My reaction: well indifference would be close to the mark.
