was wondering if video/ dvd rental type business work work thru internet??

granted it wud need to be prebooking type thing i.e. preplanned to watch the film. problems i'd see with it is lack of returned films so wud need a clause in there blah blah.

like last night opended a new block buster account and they used my debit card as ID and verification of address and also method of payment and also a method of payment if a film has not been returnted within 20 days then they can try and charge the card for the amount due.

so what i was thinking was someone goes onto the film rental website enters what film they want pay by card and has a tick box for them to agree if its not returned within X days you can charrge the card for amount due.

send the film out in a jiffy bag/box type thing within an enclosed prepayed return jiffy bag/box.

so if soem one has decided after a couple of days that they would want to keep the film they wud enter a refrence number that they are provided with when booking the film. that when they go onto the web site they can buy the film for however much.

e.g. book a film for £2.50(or what ever) they recieve it the next day and have 2 days to return it. before the charges start clocking up. they have upto 10 days to decide that they want to buy it @ £13 or whatever then after that on the 20th day the card will be charged (if possible).

There are several out there allready so I guess the idea does work, personally I couldnt be bothered to post the film back and would end up getting billed ££££'s

that in movies looks ok, but doesn't have the latest films and also seems a bit expensive. well at least i can see how it could work.

cheers.

It might be worthwhile investigating the new 'temporary' dvd coating that is being developed. As I understand it the coating on the playable surface(s) of the dvd degrade when exposed to laser. You could 'configure' the coating to play five or six times before the surface of the disc became unplayable - hence no worrying about people sending the rentals back. Much easier and a pretty good USP.

Ohh and I've probably got all of the details wrong there but I'm sure you'd find something more accurate on the web.

gaz, i know what ur on about, its a deep purple type dye aparantly and its how the film compabnies are sending the prerelease-preview discs to the cinemas to view to decide if they want to buy it. so they can only watch it the once or twice which greatly reduces the risk of the film being copied
