As of yesterday, i get a grinding noise coming from the passenger side wheel! :(
and when i brake, its a real real grinding noise!
So am guessing the rear pads have just died.... I got a spare set of rear pads anyway, but where to go to fit them! Any ideas in the cardiff/newport area peeps ? :)
It's one of the easier jobs to do on the car if you fancy a bit of DIY (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=159021&page=3)
they ar easyish to do yourself mate. or get a mechanicaly mided mate to help out..
i did it on my own... and my mechanical knowledge ends as soon as i lift the bonnet.

am pretty dim when it comes to doing stuff on my own car to be honest :)
And i know a few peeps that could help me out, but there not in cardiff!
But also, i dont have any tools to do the job myself.....
As it is making the grinding noise, and could be looking at tomorrow getting it fixed, do i stand to do much damage ? or warp the discs even ? (i would'nt have thought i would hear grinding whilst moving ? only when i actually hit the brake ?)
You'll damage the disc and it could overheat when applying the brakes. I wouldn't drive far on it. It's an easy spanner job for a mechanic, any local garage could do it, so take it to the closest one.

gotta drive 55miles (motorway) to get home :(
guess i got a problem as they say!!!
or spray WD40 onto the rear discs ? (dangerous i know, but am outta luck otherwise!)

Don't spray WD40 on the disk  it wont help you in any way
Have a good look at the pads that side and post a picture up from both inside and outside of disk.
I cant remember if there are wear indicators on the pads ! if so this may be the noise and is not going to do any damage just inform you the pads are low.

They should take all of 1/2 hour to change with the right tools
Worst case you get charged for an hours labour in a garage circa £40

am all sorted now peeps, drove back to gloucester at slow speeds.....
used the laguna this morning, so the missis took it to a local garage who changed the pads....
the ones he took off had worn past the pad and into the metal part of the brake pad !! guess the cheapo rears dont have wear noise indicators!
the disc has been scored a bit so i guess next time i change the pads on the rear, gonna need to put on new discs! :)
Cheers dudes, always appreciated :)
Going back to the WD40, if i spray that on the front brakes of my birds car, will that help me out when she goes out driving ? :D
If it were my car, I'd get new discs put on fairly soon or the new pads will take the shape of the old, scored disc. Again, a quick and easy job for a garage (or DIY) and not expensive for plain discs.
You've really got to learn to check over cars more often Stu! i'm amazed you are still alive tbh :wack:

haha, Banzai Stu says Take No Prisoners!
Anyway, if somthing goes wrong, a ditch, tree or wall will stop me, just hope the airbag still works! :D :D
Best go looking for some rear discs!
