Explain to me valves...

... but not of the regular variety ie. 2 or 4 per cylinder, Im on about the Audi 5 valves per cylinder...

How would the cam work on th e 5th? and even what would the 5th one do??

The fifth valve is normally an additional inlet valve and works of the inlet cam as normal. Yamaha pioneered production 20 valve heads on their bikes in the eighties.

My knowledge points to this description:

The fifth valve on the Audi lets stuff in.
Or possibly out.
