Has anyone ever had a Honda CB200 and if so, what did you think of them?
How much is teh tax on a 1974 CB200? Any ideas how much the insurnace would be for a 21 y.o. with 4years car NCB and a new bike licence?

ANyone got a coil for the above bike?
Ta!

Yes years ago!

Twin cylinder 4 stroke IIRC, ok for pottering around on, slow, reliable, not much in the way of brakes, unsafe over 60mph, due to frame being made of rubber!

Classic insurance should cost you peanuts, good source for bits is the used motorcycle guide, small A5 mag, think they have a website too, you might find a coil from a car will fit.

My brother had a CB125 a few years ago, actually he had 2 of them! They were the same sort of age that you are talking about. I think they were ok bikes, easy to work on which for a bike that age is probably going to necessary at some point. I would assume tax would be free due to classic status which is 25 years?? (could be wrong though)
As for insurance I really don't know but try Bennetts.
www.bennetts.co.uk there may only be one t or n though!

Your NC on the car will make no difference at all to your bike insurance, TBH most insurers are more intesrested in how long you've held your bike licence but try these for a quote online :-

https://www.directchoice.co.uk/home/

I've just insured my CBR600 with them this year for a grand total of £140 :) (mind I'm am 35 with full no claims on my bike).

Personally I'd go for something like a Suzuki Bandit for a first bike as they arn't bad bikes (group 10 insurance) and pretty cheap to buy.

Try Carol Nash (http://www.carolenash.com ) insurance. They tend to do good deals for bikes over 10 years old.

Does anyone know how much teh class A course costs? ie the one that allows me to ride eeverything coz the 200 (hey, I've got a ***** :) ) is just over the upper limit for the lower band IIRC

At my local motorbike training place it is £495 for the direct access course which will allow someone who has never riden before to ride anything (could be dangerous!!) so this includes CBT and bike hire. Obviously if you are providing the bike then this will be cheaper.

I think you can ride up to 33bhp on a restricted A licence - I'd be surprised if the cb200 was anywhere near that as my old cb400 was only about 35.

I'd see if you can get a third party extension on the insurance - once you get one you'll feel the need to swap bikes with your new friends and a run up and down the road is more fun than around tesco car park.

Ahh I see what you mean - I thought you were saying I was only going to ride mine around car parks

Won't fully comp. insurance cover me in the same way it does for cars?

You probably won't be covered for other motorcycles, even 3rd party.

A few years ago motorcycle insurers were losing money big time (so they told us!) and cut back on all sorts of bits and pieces. Unfortunately it's never really recovered. :(
And I'm never rude ;) :D

I've got the third party extension (oooerrr) on my policy I'll see who it's with but I think it was insurance centre or some equally forgettable broker.
Is the cb200 the superdream or was that the 250?

This tends to be true, bike policies usually don't cover you for other bikes, however, some car policies do, go figure !!
