Can't believe how lame that evil genius contest in the Honda CTR was... For god sake, do some car reviews if you can't think of something genuinely witty to waste time with...

Wonder what the 350 will be like in UK spec?

Loved the DS though, that gets my vote for greatest car of all time. None of your poncy E Type stuff for me.

I had no idea the DS was so old! Looks more 70's/80's than 50's! What an amazing car.

Man, it's got the arse off a new Primera :( F*ckin' mingin' car. And you've gotta take his points - if you're trying to compete with the TT, you've got to make the interior better than the C3's.

Citroen Pluriel... you've got to laugh, really :)

Jodie Kidd... yuhuhuhuhuhu :D Even more so 'cos she's a car girl and a kick-ass driver :)

DS... gotta agree with JB there. Classic car, fantastic innovation from Citroen.

Talking of tiny cars with 700cc engines + turbos, we test drove a smart roadster on Friday. (Missus needs a new car, she loves my MR2, but is scared of it in the wet).

It's got a boost gauge as standard (instant brownie points from me), and gets over .5 bar when you give it some. Good handling, lots of grunt when the tubby spools up.

BUT.

The gearbox. Argh. The worst piece of sh!t I've ever seen. I think it's actually dangerous.

I drove it in Birmingham, so the traffic was fairly heavy, and the best we could do was a blast up and down a dual carriageway between two roundabouts. I saw a medium sized gap on a roundabout and floored the throttle - nothing. I thought it had broke. Eventually, it started to trundle forwards and slowly picked up speed. Then the turbo spooled up, and I started to grin madly, only then the b*stard gearbox changed up - it takes a full two seconds to shift up or down - no, really.

If they do it with a manual box, I'll buy one.

How did he describe it "Japanese car, built in the US, Designed by an Indian from Leicester using a French engine" :D

hadyn
06-07-2003, 23:15
it just didnt seem rapid enuff...........

also the v6 didnt really make a satisfying burble, it was more like an irritating quiet drone - not good!!

still nissan have assured top gear that the british car will be tweaked a little.....

What a slating Clarkson gave it . Bit dissapointed to be honest but still not a bad car except what NWS25 said" built in the US, Designed by an Indian from Leicester using a French engine"

What a mess !!

hadyn
06-07-2003, 23:39
the 300ZX was also styled/designed in the US as well wasnt it??

and Clarkson also slated that big time IIRC - and then featured it on one of his DVD's in a "best of" kinda way:rolleyes:

Yes but the idiot Clarkson also liked that horrible scrabbly sh!t Alfa as well:p

Just goes to show he knows fook all about proper cars:p

He drives a Merc for fooks sake:rolleyes:

Pauly_Boy
07-07-2003, 00:34
Taht merc he has is a nice car!

TBH, if I had the money, I'd rather buy a RX8, at least it has some sort of chance of holding its value and looks the nuts, the Z is a bit 'same old' TT style :(
Wouldn't say no to a free one tho!

Nick
07-07-2003, 08:58
Cant believe they all liked the Alfa. The only plus points was a nice interior (that will eventually fall to bits) and a shiny enigne.

The fact that it was slow and handled like crap seemed to have been lost on them.

I've seen a 350z and didn't think much of it.

I saw an S13 recently and that looked REALLY GOOD!

I think Nissan ought to re-release them instead       :wack:

Its in his Top 100 cars ever built

And a 300ZX TT would leave a 350Z for dead wouldn't it (don't know the stats)?

Dunc :)

Clarksons old chum Quention Wilson was singing the 350z's praises in one of the sunday rags at the weekend, maybe the one Clarkson had was the "yank" spec and Quenton had the proper UK version.

And as for that Alfa.....what the hell did they see in that thing. Hate to think what it would be like in the wet

Come on, you gotta choose the Alfa out of the other two, i mean Ford or VW, gotta be Alfa just for its heritage (and the shiny bits) :D
