View Full Version : That heady aroma of coolant
Noticed recently that the car's smelling rather coolanty after a run (oddly enough usually quite short runs). But I've run it out a few times and lifted the bonnet and looked for steam/dripping/water gushing out all over the place and there's nothing to be seen at all. Radiator's full but I had to top up the header tank the other day (down to 3/4 from max) so I'll keep an eye on it and see how long this lot lasts. I might swap the thermostat, 'cos it seemed to take its time to warm up the other day...might be connected. Views?
Could be the heater matrix.
Pray it's not - you'll have to take the whole f*cking dashboard out.
Mmmm....

Luckily I've ruled out the heater matrix (I think) It tends to appear when the heater's set to cold with the fan on and the car's stationary after a bit of a run (but not every time?!?!?). So I suspect the smell's being wafted in through the ventilator intake from under the bonnet. I'm praying it's not the sodding heater matrix. However if it was it'd give the the chance to sort out the heater selector flap as well. It doesn't like going between the demist and vent position without me leaning under the dash and fiddling with the lever. That's a common Nissan fault.
So's having clueless dealers......

True, Ripper. Very true.
This info might be feck all use to no-one except MikeS13 and Morgaine at the mo - but the Nissan dealership in Workington (forgotten their name, but there's only the one) are STREETS better at S13 info than Masons/Benfield in Carlisle. They're very helpful and clued up.
