Yup it's that time again :)
Many have tried to imitate but there is only one Babboon run, the ultimate way to take in the best (drivable) roads in Wales in particular the breathtaking Rhayader reservoir the gateway to the Elan valley.
Have a look at the route below.

It's not a quick spin down the shops and will take a good few hours to complete BUT it's always worth it.
Upon completion of the run you will be awarded the much sought after Babboon run sticker and enter into the SXOC elite.
NOTE: Not to be confused with the "run for the hills" trip of 2009 this is the real deal ;)
Stops for lunch are optional but regroup stops are essential as it's wild out there ;)
Everyone to meet at J47 M4 MCDonalds for brekkie/Coffee at 10:00 then the aim is to leave the start point at 11:00 prompt.
The time the route takes depends on many factors. Please allow a full day as there are many photo opportunities and some people may want to go back over some of the roads to make sure they have a good day ;)
This will be called off due to severe weather as we have done it in the snow and although it was fun it was a bit mental of us !!
There is no upper limit for number of cars but if there are less than 5 cars the run will also be called off.
Should any Englanders be interested then accommodation can be arranged including a night out after the day's driving to reflect :)
Just to add :
This is not a race and there is no prize for coming first, the whole point of the trip is to be able to drive your car on some beautiful roads with fellow enthusiasts around you also having a great time.

A tank of fuel is plenty :nod: it's just the fuel some may need to get to the start point etc that can be an issue.
I will post up some locations for fuel stops over the next few days.
If you guys stop for lunch in Rhayader i could be up for meeting there, wont be coming for big spins as my s13's gay

We tend to do one on this scale every year :nod:
There are other runs we do though and if there is a request for a run i have no issues in scouting a good route out for you :)

Man up, every one is aware of the hazards of driving in weather, just take it easy and I can't see it snowing this year probably the beginning of next ear like always, I'm up for this with out a doubt its all about the drive club spirit and of course the stickers lol.
You could always carry snow chains. I'm probably going to get a set.

B) people going to quick for the conditions and coming off up the beacons remember they are not very forgiving roads...

Everyone has access to the route and SHOULD print it out so they don't get lost ;)
Im not anyone's dad on here and you are all wise enough to make your own decisions.
Should you wish to follow me then that's your call, but don't forget that i drive these roads quite allot (with work and in the 200) hence being able to produce such interesting but safe routes.
Will have to get a mascot for this event I think, can not wait for this now, is it ok to bring a mate along in his 200 as he aint a member on here yet.

No that's all we managed to get to the SXOC WEEKENDER event in the summer.
Its a yearly event laid on by the club at Prescott hill in Chepstow.

Ginno has a valid point.... i use my 200 every day for work, but think twice when snow/ice is about
( 1 ) not in my own competence...but the lack in others and attitude ,well its only a car you've got insurance.
( 2 ) we all know how the 200 handles on ice:
the frost and ice may thaw lower down but stays for much longer around the mountains i think its called black ice!!!.
ITS every ones choice, respect each others point of view and enjoy, whats wrong with other runs through the year.
There used to be a rally called the Dragon Rally up north wales in the 60/70s in december for motor bikes you could always bet on snow;
Or another rally called the elephant rally in germany at the nur/ring in january , snow up to your waist then camping the week end after a few of these you got to respect s/ice cond, and got to know what riding/driving by the seat of you pants meant.. good times.
That is a valid point! but very rarely do we have really bad weather in November,its normally Jan/Feb that are the worst round here,i'm sure if it does end up in a cold snap that it will be cancelled! :nod: :thumbs:

What's the crack with this - I'm too lazy and drunk to read through all the pages - is it just a case of everyone meet up, and then he who has the most experience with the roads / owned their car the longest just leathers off into the distance? Or stopping at good points along the way to get pics / exchange banter over who is the girliest driver?! :ghey:
My first experience driving a 300hp rear wheel drive car begins tomorrow... can't see me turning into a RWD god who is willing to smash the car into unknown roads by 2 weeks time :wack:

Thanks, Nick. One point to be aware of (for everyone), the B road from Beulah to Newbridge, watch out for the set of traffic lights where the road narrows. You DO NOT want to meet a HGV there. :wack:

Funny enough was out that way today on a scenic drive home from Hereford :wack:
Lots of temp roadworks about today too as they are cleaning up after the high winds and this is also making the roads cleaner and improving visibility :)

and to top it all, had my tyes fitted today on my refurb rims and the numptys have scratched the outer rims and not use the proper socket on the nuts and chiped most of the wheels around that area too :mad::mad::mad:
I was not happy. Boss came out and sacked the fitter infromt of me !!

Yeah Swansea is showing a 45% chance at 12:00 on Thursday and it's increasing from there.
The further up you go the higher the chance gets ! didn't bother going further than Merthyr though as i was too depressed lol

So apparently it's going to be snowing Friday/Saturday.
If you cancel because of that and hold it on a different day instead, I'll be up for it once again.

Id be up for this after xmas......but realistically its going to be May before we have any half decent weather again.....I did this run last summer with the Honda S2000 & Alfa Romeo owners club and its an amazing spectacle and fantastic drive!

The lack of confirmed people is the main reason for me pulling it not the bloody weather.
We live in Wales FFS it rains and is cold most of the dam time im used to it and i cant see the problem :no: if i was in Dubai and we suddenly had Welsh weather then i could see the issue.
Best bet is to call it off for this year and try again next year, have a simple drive down the Mumbles and grab a nice Coffee down knab rock :)
Hopefully we will have more interest in the meets next year too, although im not holding my breath...

One point, much as I was trying to organise attending, finances are mainly against it after the move and attempting to save for the garage. If the car was not valued at £12K, I would not mind the run, but, I have invested too much in it to risk some idiot losing control in the mountains if it does turn out to be icy/snowy. Those are the reasons that I changed to possible. I don't doubt my own driving ability.

It's no problem Barry :no: im aware that it's an expensive day for some and this close to the festive season it's a cost that can be saved.
Well all I can say is there is a severe lack of commitment from the welsh guys. As Nick said we are in wales and what can you expect. I have seen this a million times people jump on the wagon and when it comes down to it they are no where to be seen. At least some names on the list have spoken up and explained the reason for not being able to attend.
When it comes down to it a job of an events organiser can be tough, and certainly a royal pain in the arse. For people to actually comment and make out no thought was put into this, is out of order. You will find that if you check back through dates there are key events on that would cause a poor turn out to an event like this.
Sorry if you think this is wrong, but try looking at it from an events organisers point of view as I know exactly what its like. Rant over.

Bit of a shame - part of the reason why my last car club began to get a bit rubbish going to meets - just a massive drop off in attendance.
However, I do think that a lot of it had to do with the current financial situation and everyone tightening their purse strings, I'm sure all car clubs will pick up again.
What's the score now then for this weekend?
I'm not one for showing my interest in meets etc, and would always like to say one way or t'other whether I'll show my face - just common courtesy really!! :thumbs:

Very true, i may just repair the car, not track it anymore and then sell next year. I don;t know what hit me, i was at santa pod yesterday (spend most of the day repairing the car) and when i was driving home my perspective has changed. I would rather just start saving for a house etc rather than spend it all on my car every month.
i know i'm not skididng the cheapest car but the costs would still be the same as i tend to not hit anything when im driving the s15 ;)
Yesterday it cost me -
petrol - £130 up and back and petrol for the day
tyres - £70
pod entry and license - £80
food etc £20
totalling £300 and that would be in any car really. plus the coilovers are going to cost me around £350 and the clutch has top come from japan and thats £240 for the friction plate. so yesterday cost me £890 :cry:
Any form of motorsport is a rich mans game i'm afraid. I'd love to do some form of competing but I simply can't afford it.
This is why I prefer the occasional track day. It allows you to open the car up and enjoy it as well as still being a usable everyday car.

We got there and they were awesome! my missus was gutted though,we were at the back near the sound crew,she went for a gypsies kiss,and i turned round to see Jay Leno,or whatever his name is sat next to the sound guy,went over to take his photo,and he performed 2 songs from the back! Missus could'nt get near,and i could pretty much shake his hand :D
She hates me now,and she's only 5'4" so she could hardly see the stage! :wack:

Thanks to Nevins for offering to pop down for a drive so i was not on my own for 40 minutes but it really was not worth you coming lol
If i had known no one was going to bother, then me and the family could have had a far better day with Santa and the reindeer picking our tree.instead of rushing about for no reason :annoyed:

Got the decorations down for the Mrs and hooked up the outside lights, just got the main roof ones to turn on now but the lad is sleeping and i need to get into the attic via his room.
So you froze doing the lights instead lol. I have been toasty warm watching the family put the decorations up while i watched zombie land, very festive indeed lol
