Is the body kit fitted the only difference between early s13's and later '93 models etc?

Or are there greater technical differences (not including different seats etc.)?

Dear Dunc,
there was also a brake upgrade from 256mm to 280mm in the front (for Austrian S13).

Cheers,
Thomas

ABS became STD, LSD appeared, different wheels.
Mine has uprated smoke machine, not sure whether that was standard or not.

If you have a look at, http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/car_reviews/279/index2.htm and pages around there it may give you more of an idea.

Approx Feb '92 was changeover I think.
Dont forget uprated turbo oil feed (still cack!), cat/charcoal canister, lambda sensor controlled fuelling/non adjustable afm, headlamp washers, lumbar support (again, cack!), leather gearknob/steering wheel bigger washer bottle (due to headlamp washers) platinum plugs, anyone with anything else?

There is a few specific questions -

You say a lambda sensor was fitted after Feb '92, does this mean if you remove the CAT the fueling goes all to france on later models?

Are all the parts between the Pre '92 and the post '92 fairly simple to interchange between the two? i.e. the chassis was not changed to incorporate the new parts?

Third question - do these questions make any sense?

Cheers ,

Dunc...

Removing the cat wont make a difference as the lambda thingy is before the cat.

Air con wasnt standard until 94 when they were trying to flog the last few off.

No leather steering wheel, how do you cope. And gearknob too, what luxury I have without even knowing it.

LSD was standard from some point, just seems to make the back end go where the front end should be even sooner in the wet, great fun http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif.

When I first got my car I could tell straight away that it had a CAT by the stink when I floored it.

I don't know how you could tell if it ever had a CAT fitted though.

Has it got a lambda sensor? its got three skiny wires going to it nad it's just back of the turbot.

docwra

And if its got the lambda sensor then it is cat, right??
Is it expensive to get one removed??

You're better off leaving the Lambda thingy on as it prevents you engine running lean.

But yes you just unplug it if you don't want it to do anything, there is a harness not too far away from it, just follow the wires.

I was going to say - I can find the haddock and the bream, but not the turbot .......

Youve lost me though - does it not make any performance difference having a cat on the thang, or it does and I need a whole new exhaust system?

Jezz_S13

There is an ongoing discussion as to whether you can legally remove the CAT, I have a freind who is an MOT tester and he hasn't given me a straight answer yet.

The cat does make a performance difference, but probably not that much, the lambda sensor is not really anythingto do with the cat, it was just brought in at the same time as it allows the ECU to calculate whether the engineis running rich or not.

When it gets hot it produces a voltage between 0 and 1 depending on how much oxygen there is in the exhaust gas. The ECU interprets this and adjusts the injector timing accordingly and possibly the adv/retard too.

Hope this is clearer now, I'm off to sunny amsterdam to get sh!tfaced for the weekend now.
