Harness differences

I've currently got a 6 point (out of date) harness with the buckle layout - two clip in shoulder straps, two clip in waist straps and a single lower clip in the bottom with two sub straps on it a bit like this:-

But I've seen a lot of designs in the size I need with the same buckle layout but the lower sub straps are simply linked into the waist and shoulder straps like so:-

What's the advantages/disadvantages of both systems? Anyone tried both and have some feedback?
