Yes unfortunately it is true what you have heard :(
On Thursday the 21st I was on my way to work. I was on the duel carriageway right outside of the stadium doing about 30 - 40 mph when the guy in front of me braked really hard, not slamming on, but enough to come to a stand still. I braked but not as hard as I had left at least 2 - 3 car lengths of room in front of me. I was sitting there stationary for about 2 - 3 seconds when it occurred to me to check my rear view mirror, I don't know why, as I checked my mirror I saw this car coming in pretty fast and I knew he wasn't going to stop in time. I pushed myself back into my seat and prepared for the impact. Fook me he hit me with some force, I smashed my head on the top of the bucket seat and it almost knocked me out. After a minute or so I got out of the car shaking like a leaf. To say I was pissed off is an understatement with Mallory park being on the 30th and all.
I looked at the car and my heart dropped. The right light was facing the sky, and both light brackets were smashed. The boot lid has bent and has raised, the bumper is pretty much in half and the back of the car behind the bumper has been pushed in approx half a foot.
I said to the guy 'What the F*** where you playing at?' to which he responded 'I'm really sorry i was looking at the guy in the car on the right'. I'm not sure if something was going on between him and the guy in the car on the right but he said he didn't even see me stationary.
As it turns out he works for Elephant insurance company. He said it was his second accident in 2 weeks, I said 'Well doesn't that say something about your driving then?' I was so pissed off, wanted to kill him but that wouldn't have gotten me anywhere.
Drove the car to work and parked it in the leisure centre. The car drives completely fine and you on know it has been hit by looking at it only. The spare 18" Rota wheel in the boot took the majority of the impact on the right hand side, however there was no wheel on the left hand side and that's what crumpled.
I'll give it to elephant though, they phoned me within 2 hours, apologised for the accident and admitted full liability. They asked me if they wanted them to supply a courtesy car, asses and repair the damages, to which I agreed.
Within another 2 hours they send a recovery truck to pick my car up and dropped the courtesy car to the leisure centre.
After the accident I hurt my lower back and my neck was hurting but ever so slightly (hardly noticeable) I was advised to go to the hospital where the doctor put me through some ridiculous tests tbh and said that I had sprained my neck and gave me anti inflams and pain killers. The following day when I woke up, holy shit, couldn't move my neck hardly and my back was hurting loads. I Took the pain killers and that was that. Later on that day I was teaching and as soon as I started to demonstrate something I was instantly dizzy and feeling sick. This happened for 3 days, so possibly concust? I'm not sure.
Anyway the car is still up TWKThomas. TWKThomas has assessed the car and it is borderline between being written off and repaired (because of the cost of the Nissan parts they told me) TWKThomas has asked Elephant to send their own assessor as it's too close for them to call. That was the last I heard and that was on Wednesday
Even though I am covered with my insurance like for like cover, they said if the car gets written off then they will still only pay out bottom book. I'm not sure what they have the car registered as it could be a spec R. If it is a spec s I would imagine bottom book to be around £4500 - £5000. They also said that if they won't repair it then they can do what's called 'Cash in lieu' whereby they will give me the car back and a few thousand to get it repaired. This would be ideal. SO I just have to play the waiting game :(
Here's some pics:

well it's been just over a week since the accident and feel ok apart from a achiness on the left hand side of my shoulders/ base of the neck. Just feels like i have had a good session in the gym on shoulders. Thought it would have gone by now though.
Maybe i will go visit the docs again. I hate going to the Doctors.
That sucks man.
Make sure you claim for your injuries as well (please dont start an sxoc debate on this) at least that way even if you get book spec s value and buy it back you'll still be able to sort it out and maybe even spray it!
And yes get to the doc's.... more proof the better

I've got some plans for the car which will be happening very shortly.
If they repair the car, the car will be going to Bryn (nightwalkers) for the rear arches tubbed and over fenders are getting bolted to the rear, new dmax type3 kit is going on with hopefully different front fenders and then it's going to Gareth (nightwalkers) for prep and paint
If they don't repair the car then the same thing is happening but Bryn will be straightening the car out for me also.
Either way the car is going to be back better than new :)
Fingers crossed i can get a daily car also and just keep the s15 for track. That's the plan anyway.
I'm still after some secure storage space, enough for a car on a trailer that i can rent each month. Does anyone know of anything around the Swansea area?

Sorry to hear about this dude, I'd be happy with a write off, buy the car back and get bryn to do the job.
I would not trust TWK Thomas with your car, it took them three attempts to paint a bumper for me a few years ago after a neighbour ran into Vick's Pug. 1st, wrong shade white, 2nd runs in the paint and bad masking off, 3rd had overspray, but could not be arsed to take it back again and finished the job myself, still had to fiddle with the bumper to get it to line up correctly.
Get your ass back to the doc's and make sure you are sorted man. Glad you ok though:thumbs:

I know of some someone that worked at TWK, he left due to their dubious 'fill em and send em' approach to workmanship.
Beg for a write off and buy it back.

 I kid you not about 8 years ago my mate in work had a nice 300zx which he span and smashed up on ice.TWK sent it back to him with one red wing mirror and one black mirror! and i don't think they own a roll of masking tape, the overspray was shocking!
And i have several other stories too,but too tired to write them now! :)

Yeah it's all good this end mate - flat out bsuy as usual though! lol.
If it doesn't mention Spec S or Spec R on the log book, when they make you an offer you could show them adverts for similar Spec R's forsale to get decent money off them.
The ideal car to find them would be a front ended Spec R and use your front enf to repair that!

Richy, I work for Elephant/Admiral too, just push all you can for a Cash in Lieu as the car won't be recorded as a write off - if they're adamant about writing it off though then tell them you want it back although be prepared for it to be worth less in the long run after being written off.
I'm not a big fan of TWK either although never had any bodywork done there, just didn't like their attitude when I had a cambelt change on my old lupo a year or two back.

Hi Sarah, thanks for posting. The garage couldn't estimate how much it would be to get the car repaired and due to this they had to get elephant to send a engineer. Elephant paid for an independant engineer (self contractor) to view the car. They were supposed to view the car last week. They went out to the car on Tuesday and they have to report back to Elephant withing 2 days. They phoned me today to tell me that they won't know anything until friday or Monday, which i was pissed off about. They said the reason for this was because the engineer who viewed my car is on holiday!! Not happy, it's been 2 weeks today just for them to tell me whether they are going to repair the car or not!!
They've given you a car to drive about in though yeah??

No worries, I was actually chatting to Andrew (the guy who crashed into you) on Friday in town - didn't realise it was him till he said he'd bumped someone so I asked if it was by the stadium! Shame about the Engineer - they sometimes take a little longer to come through on the system than the 2 working days - ideally they shouldn't be putting time limits on stuff unless they're 100%.
only problem with that is...the longer he has a hire car the bills stack up on the account and the more likely it is to get written off ... ?

The cost of the hire car doesn't have anything to do with writing the car off - a lot of people seem to think this but it's not true. At the end of the day the insurance company tends to look at the market value of the car - this is what they use to calculate max repair costs and write off values. The hire car is something on top that they have to pay for - and it's not costing them as much now that they've arranged it direct with Richy than if he'd gone to some accident management company like Accident Exchange or Drive Assist.
Richy, if you have any other questions just give me a shout :-)

Hi guys need some advice,
Elephant have gotten back to me and said more than likely it is a write off, total loss. The reason behind this is because the cost of the parts are so expensive.
They haven't had the report back off the independant assesors however they did say to elephant over the phone when they called them today that it wouldn't be beneficial to repair the car, cost wise.
Elephant have given me a few scenarios
a/ if the car is a cat c/d they can do waht's called cash in lieu, whereby they give me a sum of money and get the car repaired.
b/ They can write the car off and give me bottom book for the car. (How do they know if it's a spec s or a spec r? It doesn't say on the logbook and i had the car insured for £9000Also there is nothing on the chassis number to say what it is either) There is a big difference between spec S bottom book and spec R bottom book, i would imagine spec s to be around £4000 bottom book and spec R £7000.
They also told me that if they cat B the car then i cannot buy the car back as it won;t be road worthy (i can't see this being the case). Would i be able to buy the car back and say that it will never go back on the road and just break all the parts off it? or repair the damage and just track the car?
I just don;t know what to do. I don;t want to end up taking 2 - 3,000 off them and then get the car fixed and the car will be worth next to nothing as it's been damaged.
Also i want the most amount of cash out of the situation. I hope this makes sense.
Any advice guys?
I would have though more like £4k + the car back, patch it up and drift it to your hearts content!
Wouldn't worry so much about resale value, just take loads of pics of the repair work, and another drifter will have it off you!

As far as I can tell from your post the book prices for Spec R & S are your guesstimates at the moment?
If so see what they come back with before deciding:nod:
Pdh's logic is sound enough, and if you love that car that much then thats the way ahead......
but if you settle with 7-9k in your back pocket that buys you a daim lot of car:nod:
I assume a few choice bits eg: wheels wouldn't go with it?

IYes mate they were bottom book guesses. We'll see what they offer me, i'm just picturing them offering me 2,000 plus the car and if that's the case, they can go and get stuffed.
If i had no choice and i had to hand the car over, the car probably wouldn;t be running mate as the choice of bits that would be coming off the car would be quite a lot lol

Awesome news, i kicked up a bit of fuss, spoke to the engineers, advised them how much parts were worth etc and came to an agreement.
Basically Elephant have transfered some money into my bank for me to get the car fixed. Based on prices from nissan for the boot floor, rear panel and boot lid. Rhd japans prices for rear lights and a rear bumper $$$ :)
the car is not a cat d, cat c or b it's not a category at all. They just said the price of the parts was expensive not - the amount of dammage being to excessive :)

Richy.
In all seriousness get your back and neck checked out
I had a big accident years ago where a ford escort decided to mount the back of my van breaking the seat of the mounts and pinning me to the steering wheel.
I was fine at the time bar being a bit banged up and bruised with a few cuts but nothing major in my eyes (had worse from coming off my bike on a downhill section)
I was referred to a BUPA specialist the following day where i was put through a big physio routine that identified a severe injury to my upper back and shoulder, this was hidden by the swelling caused by the injury.
I had a fairly large payout BUT this was soon eaten up by the cost involved with physio that was required to repair the damage.
I still get problems to this day with working hands over head while looking upwards.
Just make sure you get checked out properly ;)
