View Full Version : Wheel alignment suggestions West London (up to Reading)

:sxoc: Can anyone recommend wheel alignment places in west london (can travel as far as reading)

essentially, put standard wheels back on and think I have inside edge wear on the fronts so just want to get it checked/fixed but can't afford to pay too much (have to if I must I guess):smash:

Found Feltham Tyres who appear to be reasonable - anyone used/recommend them? (guess I need front and rear toe - £59 or will just front toe be enough £38)

I know Jez does it as well but he is a bit too far (near Newbury) and a bit expensive (£99 - though might be worth for peace of mind as the 3month check is included in the price I think - so 2 checks for 99 I think)

thanks in advance

Another vote for wheels in motion....
They're based in Chesham, so not too far out

Dave270r used them and I remember him saying they were pretty good.

I'll be going up there in a couple of weeks when I finally have a free Saturday to stop my car driving like a bag of crap!! :annoyed:

Thanks - looks like Wheels in Motion it is and if I have to pay 100 for a proper setup then so be it

For that price Jez was proving tempting as he also offers to check it again 3months after setup to ensure it is still running ok. Will see if people recommend anyone else - looks like between Jez and wheels in motion?

I need to get mine done again soon, when I finally get my finger out and fit the rest of the uprated arms that are cluttering up my house...

Think its worth getting it done else will just keep going through tyres and with diesel season coming up, don't want to trash it.

BTW - has anyone used Horshams for alignment/tracking? Wheels in motion seem to get good reviews but Jez will prob be more familiar with 200s

I used Jez last time mine was done and he was absolutely spot on!
The car was in having a load of stuff done at the time though, so this time it will be WIM as they are just up the road rather than being a bit of a drive.

Did you go back for the 3month check?

Has anyone ever used Elite Wheels on Portman Road in Reading? Might go there seeing as it's a bit closer.

ive heard there also pretty good lou, but wheels in motion are apparently the best around here:thumbs:

i must get mine done once its finished

WIM is completely the opposite direction of where I have to drive to tomorrow evening.. :ghey: So if I can get it done in Reading it'll be a bit easier for me ..

Looks like WIM are getting the vote here .. . will have to book it in soon.

if you do go to Elite lou let me know how they are as I am working in Bracknell ATM so not too far from Reading

Also try Jtech Automotive www.jtechautomotive.co.uk got a lot a history in motorsport and just on the outskirts of Reading (Emmer Green) just had my set up, Full camber, castor, corner weights and alignment setup done :-) Very Happy, and a noticable difference.

lou - how does the car feel after a few days? How much was it if you don't mind me asking. Did they give before and after printouts so you know what was done?

Lou-Lou
27-09-2010, 20:58
£75.. and you get before and after prints. They also asked me if I was happy with the camber settings (have had issues with arch clearance) before they finished doing the car, which was quite nice to be asked!!

Yep, happy with it, will def go there next time :)

thanks lou

am only on standard suspension and wheels (except the ARBs) hence don't want to too overboard with this ATM ... now just have to dig out the recommended readings first

Lou-Lou

Well they did a decent job and fairly cheap :)

They should already have the settings, worth giving them a call :)

Called Jtech . .they do at £45+vat plus charge per change (approx £10 per change) but they also mentioned that it could be the bushes if its only happened recently

Elite quoted the same as what lou said but didn't mention anything about the bushes.

So, question is if the car has been fine for the last 4 yrs but recently noticed wear on the inside edge on front driver side tyre (don't think its spread to the nearside one), could this be bushes or tracking/alignment?

Any ideas? Or anyone in the bracknell/reading area who might be able to have a quick look for a complete spanner monkey like me? Or tell me what to look for and I can have a go!!!

The camber on mine was well out.. I had it aligned about a year ago I think.

Not sure what caused it to be so out again..

IMO I'd get the alignment done and if it still feels crap then start investigating other stuff. It's made a shed load of difference having mine done, I was convinced something major was broken before they sorted it out!

Mine ripped out the inside edge of the o/s/f too, turned out to be a TC arm bus had gone weak (that and the alignment was all to c*ck!)

Booked in for Elite on Monday :)

Trying to find what the standard settings should be on standard suspension and wheels with Whiteline ARBs

Can't seem to locate it for some reason (tried the search) - does anyone have the standard or recommended settings with Whitelines ARBs (or a linky pls)?

All done - alignment back on track now :)

Apparently one side was out explaining why only the front nearside tyre had worn.

Where did you go in the end?

pk
04-10-2010, 18:15
Went to Elite in the end - they were good and reasonable as you said. Gave before and after printout as well.

Need tyres replaced shortly but haven't found anyone that can beat Bracknell Tyres and Battery yet so will be going there.

Yep.. I thought they were alright tbh, and a pretty good price as well

Also alot easier for me as they are in Reading, where I am most of the time, so saves me a few £'s in fuel driving somewhere else!

pk
04-10-2010, 18:44
yep - thanks for the recommendation

what swung it in the end was that I could have my alignment done twice at Elite as what some other places were asking as well as being reasonable close to Bracknell where I am working ATM.

Considering I am on standard wheels/suspension - thought its worth a shot and they seem ok (just not the most talkative bunch) :)

For tyres fella give ALS Tyres a ring, bollock cheaper than Bracknell tyres and owner used to be a Bracknell tyres bloke, also they come to you or you can go to them in warfield or Wokingham! Number is 01344 306893

lol.. thats exactly what I thought!!!

pk

@shotaro thanks for the tip - they are both pretty close to work

ALS were cheaper for Dunlops (which is what on the car ATM) and same price as Bracknell tyres for the Kumhos KU31s so not bad at all

now the age old question which tyre for standard wheels but I guess thats a separate thread altogether :)
