View Full Version : A little drag strip and drift action?

IF this is all that it seems then previous trips up to Smeatharpe have been a good cheap day. Drag racing was a lot more fun than I thought it would be and people moan about the lack of drift action in the SW.
But for some reason it all seems a bit dodgy to me, naff website, smeatharpe has noise issues with the locals, other websites are not that kind about the organisers and November seems a funny time to do it.
Has anybody else heard about this event is it OK or am just judging it on the poor website?

I thought that this kind of events had been banned from smeatharp

Ditto
Also spelling the location right generally helps
Maybe someone on the scooby forum in the links section knows more ?

I'll keep digging and if it turns out alright I'll go along. My SX will still be off the road but with my 205 still badged up as a 1.6 I might still have some fun on the drag strip.
hummm......
drifting.... without KERBS!!!
im up for this one for sure, 40 quid all you can drift :)
have my trailer now - need a uber cheap non road legal drift car for the day...
I'd use the 200 but I dont want to risk damage and it'll probs be SORN for winter by then.

I'll be at this event, at last a local venue :)
Con2k - Look out for an mot failure e36 2.5, the engines are strong and love being on the limiter all day long.
Cheers mate - my gf's brother Mike has a lot to do with TDSW and BMW's so he's always reccommending these to me. Anything thats practically scrap would do. at worst can weigh it in after lol

will be ran by:

they really do come across as some dodgy people- but we had a awesome day when they held an advent on @ Thorney island.
hope this helps :)

especially if its only one car out on track rule :ghey:
Al - cheers, will pass the details onto the missus as its basically her 1st drift car to try out so its upto her if she wants to go ahead and get it. She might want sumthing a little lighter but for 250 u cant argue...
Clive - remember what I said on facebook, bring mossy along lol

I can't wait, it's about 5 miles away from me so for once don't have to get up at a ridiculous hour in the morning.
The runway had a bitumen type of surface laid on top of the concrete which has gone patchy. It makes your tyre smoke slighty green, never seen that anywhere else and probably not that great to breath in :wack:
Hmm... Might see if I can persuade Bex to let me come out to play!!

Anyone interested in seeing if we can attend this as a club?? I cant see an email address to contact them mind but I'm sure I could find that easy enough
Looks like a few club stands are already attending, not sure if everyone that attends has to be going up the strip or drifting though
Channie what do you think? You could bring your s15 :D
i know the organiser Chris.
ill have a word with him :)

Haha, unlikely. :p Would be interested in attending & spectating/taking a passenger ride though.

iirc when they held an advent @ thorney island it was minium of 20 cars for a club stand, no cost for the club stand and discounted tickets.
but dont quote me :)
Chriscooke

Hmmm we may struggle with 20 cars. Unless we have a national events organiser near by

edit (was a bit late  ) was 11 cars min :)

It's only a fiver if you get your tickets in advance, you still have to pay this even if you are drifting or dragging.
Ross and Channie have s-bodies  :D

It would need more than a tow :horse:
Does it have to be an s-body? I can get Jev or Jo to bring the tofu machine up to boost numbers if needed?

Not a clue mate to be honest:wack: I'd imagine it would help if it was an s-body but would be ok if the numbers were a little short :)

Anyway I need to sort my smoking habit. But do I just replace the tubby with another t28 or go for a t3/4 hybrid and top mount mani (which I can afford now) and 740's and a map (which I can't).
This is assuming its the turbo not anything internal in the 184k engine...

 Your doing it all wrong. Don't ask, tell her you are going up smeatharpe for the day    :whip: :D
T3/4?? as in like a cossie turbo  Seeing as the mapping and injectors cost loads more than the turbo and mani I'd just stick another t28 on. Have you even got it chipped yet? Stage1a is quite impressive seeing as you can use standard injectors. if your going to the hassle of top mount - hx30?

£40 for the weekend for £25 for the day. plus £5 entry each day Ben:

i said to Hannah we are going away to Devon for the weekend for an other drift weekend...
i got a reply of "i best be booked into drift aswell :) "
:D
dont bother with a top mount, just stick a 2871 on there
plus its a quetion now how long a 184k sr will last at 1.4 bar (stage 3a) :wack:
t28 £150-200. stage 1a map £200 (best $$$ i personally spent performance wise, bar the s14a auto diff :) )

Is it on both Saturday and Sunday? It says on the website: The show is open to the public on Saturday 20th November 2010, does that mean Sunday is just for drifters/dragers?
Gunna need shit loads of rubber if it's dry :smash:
anyone wanna pikey me some for the Sunday :wack:
can bring enough up for the saturday....

Yes, cossie stylee turbo. Its getting away for the day too. Anyway, if I'm reading this right and its a saturday, then I won't be able to make it anyway :( Terms of my franchise agreement and all that :annoyed:
Not chipped yet :( - each time I manage to save enough in my toy fund, something breaks or needs sorting that takes it all up :annoyed: making me scrimp steal and save again for whatever I can get into the fund...

Bit more difficult when there's a baby involved too mate. Sundays are my omly day off to spend any time with Bex and Etienne so they are rather precious to me.
Cost/benefit I think you're right - replacement T28 (r if I can find one thats not silly-money)and a 1a chip. Sufficient powerz to worry the big boys but maintain reliability for not too much money. Got a 1.5 way diff waiting on a new bushed subframe (bought from Tech - just waiting for delivery and toe arms from Kev)
I may well end up re-shelling at some point though - make a damn good job with the new shell with the rust proofing, poly/solid bushes etc etc. After we buy a house this year/next year (basically as soon as we can find one to suit within budget!) I'll have the space and hopefully the time to do this. Maybe not the skills but with the time I can learn them!!
