View Full Version : Any CA gurus around this weekend?

Due to limited knowledge of CAs and tbh, engines in general :o I was wondering if someone could lend a hand checking some things over with me this weekend?

Turned the engine over just now to make sure the rad was all good and got a variety of ticks and beeps and all sorts of noises from all over the place. I have no idea where they are coming from (sticking my head in the bay isn't helping to find owt!) and no idea what they could be.

Also, I don't think the prop should still be rotating when the car is in neutral but it is anyway. It stops rotating when I put the clutch in though.

If someone is around I would be massively appreciative of a helping hand as I really don't want any engine troubles or shenanigans at this stage in proceedings!

:sxoc:

Thanks chaps!

I take it the back wheels are off the ground, the prop rotating will be the clutch dragging or its in gear :) as long as you can stop it by hand easily it will not damage the clutch. Its iff its hard to stop where the problem lies, the friction plate will heat up and warp the flywheel if its left idling for a long period.

Yeah all 4 wheels are off the ground atm.

I've bled the clutch and that seems to be fine. What else is likely to be causing it?

Just remembered as well from when I took the shifter off, there was a random spring in one of the holes which I assume has pinged out of the box somewhere. Looks to be about an inch long and quite small diameter. Looking at the service manual I think it's the return spring? Where exactly is it supposed to go?

iirc there should be two springs that keep the stick central when in neutral. I think they have small countersunk screws sat in them. Mine does anyway.

The clutch release bearing could be worn and not disengaging the clutch completely.

Ah. I only have one. lol

Hope it isn't the clutch release bearing, that would be a massive ballache :(

It was all fine the last time it ran before I swapped the engine over.
